NFL history...

the Chicago Bears beat(stomped)the Washington Redskins,73-0,in the 1940 NFL Championship game,at Griffith Stadium(also home to the Washington Senators, from 1911 to 1965)...

Packers' news...

the Packers will celebrate the 1961 NFL Championship team,by introducing eighteen players from that team, and Vince Lombardi's daughter,Susan,at halftime,of this Sunday's game, against the Denver Broncos... that year's team stomped the New York Giants,37-0(still the second biggest shutout,in NFL championship history)...

Packers' news,and some trivia...

Aaron Rodgers named NFC Offensive Player of the month.... he leads NFL,in passer rating, completion percentage, and is tied with fewest interceptions(one-by Brian Urlacher,of the Chicago Bears-on a great defensive play, but Bears did nothing with turnover) Urlacher seems to be Rodgers' nemesis(last year,he ran one back in NFC Championship game, for a touchdown)... Urlacher was a safety,in first two years,at New Mexico...

fun fact...

Packers' coach Mike McCarthy's father was a policemen,a fireman, and owned a bar.... sometimes, you can not be too serious, and have to smile,at fun facts...

beatdown of the week...

i honestly thought about the Bears'/Packers' game, for beatdown of the week, but the Baltimore Ravens laid on a real whipping on the St. Louis Rams, and what made it memorable was that it was in St. Louis,in front of a big(but after a 21 point first period),and silent crowd... the Rams did absolutely nothing until they were down,30-0,when they scored their only touchdown,on a spectacular catch,in back of the end zone... the Ravens had 406 yards on offense,in first half, and 553 yards overall,(both franchise records),and their defense even had a touchdown,on a fumble return... they sacked Sam Bradford(Rams' quarterback)five times, unless Bradford got injured on one of the sacks(here lies Sam Bradford,it should read at the 50-yard line),and they even intercepted him once... final score Ravens 37,Rams 7,and it was not even that close,at all... total beatdown!!!!!

commentary...

when you are held to 13 yards on 12 carries(and your quarterback had nine yards on one carry)you stunk up the place... when your defensive players are the best players on the field, and still have a chance to win,you are very lucky... Chicago should have been blown out in this game, but i have to give credit to the Bears' defense, giving up only 27 points to the Packers, including two field goals(red zone defense disrupted Aaron Rodgers all day)... outside of two quick touchdowns,in first seventeen minutes(and 14-0 lead),it was a basic Bears'/Packers' game... outside of Jay Cutler, the Bears had no offense,in second half, besides a disputed fumble recovery, when Julius Peppers landed on football, while his shoulder was out-of-bounds(he actually took a slide out of bounds when recovering football),and one touchdown pass,on next play, the Bears did absolutely nothing in the second half,on offense... Cutler ran for his life all day,and getting sacked,at least three times... you may mention the last minute non punt return for touchdown,by the Bears, but i have seen video of the hold,on number 21(Corey Graham)that negated the return... it was not much of a hold(he grabbed the Packers' player,WITH LEFT HAND,around the collar, and right shoulder)... with the Packers receivers(Greg Jennings-119 yards, and Jermichael Finley 85 yards, with three touchdown catches, along with Ryan Grant having a good game(92 yards on 17 carries),the only thing keeping the Bears in game, was the Bears' defense, because with these numbers, the Packers should have breezed to a victory...

schedule update...

Denver Broncos visit Lambeau Field,Sunday... commentary ,and beatdown of week(Ravens vs. Rams,or Packers vs. Bears,or Lions vs Vikings)... have to decide which one it is-each have a beatdown segment of game involved, including Bears getting only some of their lowest rushing totals,in nearly 60 years,Lions coming back from a 20-0 halftime deficit, and Ravens scoring first 30 points of their game, with Rams,in St. Louis... both are coming out today...

injury update...

you can take this with grain of salt, but the Philadelphia Eagles report that Michael Vick has a contusion,on his right(non-throwing) hand(not a broken hand,as reported earlier),should be out 3 to 4 weeks... do i believe them? football teams have been known to hide injuries(example:Clay Matthews had a "shin" injury, the last half of last season... he later said that he had a hairline fracture of the tibia(shinbone),early in training camp,in preseason, when asked about that "injury",in camp)... i would not doubt that he has a contusion, but to see a cast on his hand makes me wonder... maybe it is for protection...

Packers' news...

Packers 27,Bears 17... commentary later...

Sunday, September 25, 2011

BREAKING NEWS....

Michael Vick,of the Philadelphia Eagles, has broken his right hand, against the New York Giants, today, and will not return... fortunately,Vick is left-handed,so he may play next week...

funny story...

a Chicago-area car salesman(John Stone),who got fired on day after Packers' 21-14 win,in NFC Championship for refusing to take off a Packers' tie,in honor of his grandmother, who was a Cheesehead, got his old boss back for his firing, when he went to a rival car dealership, and won salesman of the month three times... he believes his old boss got very upset at seeing that Packers' tie,on his best salesman,so he fired the man,for the perceived slight,to his favorite team, the Chicago Bears... way to go,John, and GO PACK!!!!!!!

Saturday, September 24, 2011

injury list update...

the only players totally out for the Bears' game are Frank Zombo,Mike Neal, and of course,Nick Collins... Zombo will probably be back, next week, and Neal has a bad knee, and should be out a few weeks, and Collins,is out for the season... everyone else on the injury list should play, against the Bears, including Clay Matthews,Tramon Williams, and Charles Woodson...

preparation for "THE WAR" (oldest rivalry in NFL)...

the last three meetings between the Bears and Packers, with all the firepower both teams have, the only offensive score, from scrimmage, for both teams that came from nine yards,or more.... it was the 35 yard touchdown catch,by the Bears,by Earl Bennett, that came with less than five minutes to play,in NFC Championship game... the only "big play" on special teams, was the 62 yard punt return,by Devin Hester,in last year's divisional opener(the third game of last year)...

Thursday, September 22, 2011

scouting report on Bears-Packers,Sunday...

Chicago Bears' quarterback Jay Cutler has been sacked eleven times, most in NFL... Packers are going to look for short passes, and runs on first and second down... if the Bears do not protect Cutler some way,Packers are going to pin back their ears, and mow Cutler into the Soldier Field turf... expect "THE WAR" to be brutal,on both sides... the Packers have the firepower to win,and the Bears have a very good defense, but so does Green Bay... it may come down to special teams, which Chicago has edge(Devin Hester),and if the Packers can knock the snot out of Cutler, which in the final game of the regular season, last season, they pounded on him,and sacked him six times...

crime news...

a package of marijuana(2 1/2 pounds),from Eureka,California, was delivered to home of Cincinnati Bengals' wide receiver Jerome Simpson, and when police raided house, they found six more pounds... the police briefly detained three people, and have not pressed charges,so far... police think it is a set up,for a distribution network for the drugs(high grade marijuana),because they found other packing materials, inside house... Simpson's agent, and the NFL had no comment, pending investigation,by police...

NFL news...

the NFL has sent a memo to all 32 teams warning them not to let players fake injuries,in lieu of what happened in the Giants-Rams game, where two players, including Deon Grant, who laid down on the field, trying to slow down the Rams, who were in a no-huddle phase,of offense, during the game... the NFL has said that doing it again, could mean fines of players, and teams, suspension of players, and even removal of draft picks in the upcoming NFL draft, for that team...

Packers' history...

the Packers have won six consecutive road openers under Mike McCarthy... the only other coach in Packers' history,to more than six road openers,in a row,was Vince Lombardi, who won seven in a row, from 1960 to 1966... the only two teams to win four,or more divisional games,in every season, from 2006 to 2010,in NFL,are the Packers, and the New England Patriots... this is the third straight season that the Chicago Bears will be the opening divisional opponent...

Tuesday, September 20, 2011

memory of mom...

guess mom was watching the Rams-Giants game, last night... mom used to say that every time that she watched the Rams(her childhood favorite team, because of father,Jack),they lost... well, mom would be saying,"oh,no,not again...",and laugh, because the Rams had a very bad first half, and lost to the Giants,28-16... way to go,mom!!!!!!!

Packers' history...

Hall of Fame member Jim Taylor led Packers,in rushing the football, from 1960-1966,and led NFL,in 1960,and 1962...

Monday, September 19, 2011

Packers' news...

Packers reported earlier that All-Pro safety Nick Collins, will be out,for the season, with a neck injury... he was hurt in fourth quarter, when his head hit a Carolina Panthers' player's hip pad,was carted off, with all extremities moving, but when the MRI,or x-rays were taken, the doctors said that,"something was wrong..." if updates are possible,i will give them...

Breaking News...

Dallas Cowboys' Tony Romo played during game, against San Francisco 49ers,with broken rib and, actually,a punctured, and collapsed lung... The Cowboys won,in overtime,27-24...

commentary...

the Packers overall actually had a better day than last week, against the Saints... when you have less than two and a half minutes,of possession time(2:24)have three offensive plays, and being out-paced in yards(174,to 14),and lose a fumble on a kickoff, what would you expect to be down,in game, after the first quarter? 10-0,14-0,or 17-0?... any other team would be down,14-0,or even 17-0,but the Packers were only down,10-0,and gave up a field goal,to spot the Panthers,a 13-0 lead, early in the second period... after that, the Packers' defense took over,ball-hawked four turnovers(Charles Woodson, had two interceptions, and a fumble recovery),and did not allow a point, until the Panthers were down,23-13,early in fourth quarter, when they kicked a field goal... Aaron Rodgers, and the offense sputtered all day,in the red zone, until he hit Jordy Nelson,on a two play 96 yard drive, with a 84 yard bomb,to go up,30-16,late in fourth quarter, and in garbage time,Cam Newton hit a 62 yard pass play,to Steve Smith,to drive deep into Packers' territory, and then score a touchdown to make it look closer than the game score may indicate... the defense gave up 432 yards, passing, and 53 yards rushing(485 yards,of 503 yards),to Cam Newton, but shut down everyone else on Panthers' offense... actually the defense shut down the Panthers' offense in the second, and third periods(dishing out four turnovers),and the most valuable part,of the Packers' team, was actually the red zone defense, like it was last week, when they stopped the Saints on two plays, with a yard to go,and won game... they have to play better, because honestly, they gave most of the yards, from the twenty,to the twenty, and the offense will play better... the Bears host the Packers, next week, and they lost badly to the Saints,30-13,this week,so "THE WAR",begins with Chicago, next week, and honestly, for the oldest rivals,in NFL,records do not count... Jay Cutler was sacked six times, and the Bears scored only six points(they actually led,7-0,in first period),in last three periods,so Cutler is inconsistent, with a spotty receiving corps, and an offensive line that was truly horrible this week, and Clay Matthews, and company showing up,watch out,Cutler, next week... graduation work starts next week!!!

Sunday, September 18, 2011

Packers' history...

Donald Driver became the Packers' pass yardage leader, today, passing James Lofton... he has caught 703 passes, for 9,666 yards,an average,of 10.37 yards per catch...

beatdown of week...

normally this is multiple games on beatdown, and there were many games that i considered, but only two games came out as finalists for dubious honor, but only one won out...
Kansas City at Detroit:when your opponent force six turnovers, you lose your best weapon,on offense,to injury, and give up 41 unanswered points,in last three quarters, you are the Kansas City Chiefs, and you have no chance to play pro football, giving up three touchdowns in fourth quarter,to really embarrass yourself, and you lose,48-3,that is a real beatdown... Detroit is not that good, but had a good game.. Kansas City never left Kansas City, all year;has not won a game, even in preseason, because they never really showed up to give a fight... Todd Haley(Chiefs' coach)must be embarrassed, about his so-called team, because to score only 3 points,on offense, and taking the worst beating that i have seen,in years... Matt Cassel must be wishing to be back in New England, because the rib injury that he suffered, against Green Bay,in preseason,is not the pain that he feels, right now, because his quarterbacking has been embarrassing to the fans... Arrowhead Stadium has been known to be the loudest stadium, for the opponents to play in,but to tell the truth,i would hate to be the Chiefs going back home, because the fans are passionate there, but if they do not boo the Chiefs, for this game effort, they are not true fans, because they(the Chiefs)are the worst team,in the NFL,right now...

funny story...

want a real laugh? Joe Theismann said, with a straight face, that Aaron Rodgers is the best passer in NFL history... Rodgers is very good, but to put him,in the company of Otto Graham,Johnny Unitas,Sammy Baugh,or even Brett Favre,is very stupid... he meant the best release,in history, but, still, that is laughable,Joe "foot in mouth " Theismann... for a guy,who Notre Dame changed the pronunciation,of his name,to rhyme with Heisman,in an ad campaign,he put his whole leg in his mouth,in that pronouncement...

commentary...

Packers need to improve their overall defense, and especially, their special teams... example:one punt in first half, last week, against the Saints, and unfortunately,a 72 yard punt return,by the Saints... defense gave up 419 yards to Drew Brees, passing, and 477 overall yards,to the Saints... good thing:they do not face Brees, every Sunday, and this Sunday, they face Cam Newton,in Carolina, who threw for 422 yards, against the Arizona Cardinals,in his first home start, and the Packers' defense are not the same,as the Cardinals' defense.... much better,in Packers' defense, but the Packers do need improvement,period... i expect it...

sad news...

the entire Chicago Bears' defense did attend Brian Urlacher's mother's funeral today,in New Mexico... Bears play Saints Sunday...

Friday, September 16, 2011

NFL news...

NFL wants to elevate security,by having fans go through "ankle up" patdowns, before entering stadiums, like the TSA,at airports... my opinion is that it is okay,as long it does not go far....

Thursday, September 15, 2011

commentary...

i may despise the Chicago Bears, and i do,but i am happy about Brian Urlacher is playing this week, against the New Orleans Saints, and very respectful, and sad,for his loss of his mother, three days ago... he was at Bears' practice today, and he is the one Bears' player whom i truly respect, and also the one player who can change the game, with one play, like his interception return, for touchdown, against the Packers, last year,in the NFC Championship game, that turned momentum almost to the Bears,in that game... he was a safety at the University of New Mexico his first two years in college, and has great hands for a linebacker, and he hits like Hall of Fame member Dick Butkis did, when he played for the Bears...

Wednesday, September 14, 2011

labor news...

twenty eight retired players have filed a federal class action lawsuit, against the NFLPA,union head DeMaurice Smith,New England Patriots' quarterback Tom Brady, and former player,Mike Vrabel claiming the union, which was decertified during the NFL lockout, did not have the right to negotiate retired players rights, and benefits... the group is headed by Carl Eller,Chuck Bednarik, and John Hannah, and twenty other Hall of Fame members...

Packers' history...

With the 42-34 win, over New Orleans,Mike McCarthy became the first coach,in Green Bay Packers' history,to win season openers,in five consecutive seasons...

childhood memory...

forty years ago, yesterday,i saw the San Francjsco Giants beat the Los Angeles Dodgers, behind home runs,by Willie Mays, and Willie McCovey... i sat behind a post in the lower deck... in fact,i had clipping of game, until i was in my mid 40's... i remember the post, more than the game(ha,ha)... in my life i have seen both of them hit two home runs,in separate games,of course...

NFL history,and unique trivia...

Sebastian Janikowski joined Denver Broncos' Jason Elam, and Detroit Lions' Tom Dempsey, when he kicked a 63 yard field goal,in Oakland Raiders' 23-20 victory... Elam, and Janikowski kicked their record tying field goals in Denver...

most entertaining beatdowns of week...

this is a new feature on this blog:most entertaining beatdowns of a team that "deserves" their head handed to them by an opponent, who has no right,or chance of beatdown of the team, but lays a whipping on their opponent,anyway...
1:New York Giants vs. Washington Redskins:Eli Manning kept complaining all pre-season that,"he was in same class as Tom Brady, because he won a Super Bowl"... fact that was:Redskins hammered the Giants, putting Manning into FED-EX Field, all day,and totally embarrassed the Giants,28-14,along with his coach,Tom Coughlin, who did not show any concern,or class, when former teammate Plaxico Burress accidently shot himself in leg, when he visited him in hospital...
2:Seattle Seahawks vs. San Francisco 49ers:score 19-17,49ers,after a great 70+yard pass play,by Seattle... you see Pete Carroll smiling until the next kickoff, when Ted Ginn,Jr. ran kickoff back 102 yards,to go up again,26-17... it was not finished:after a Seattle punt,Ted Ginn,Jr. ran another one back;a 55 yard punt return for another touchdown... just seeing Pete Carroll slink off after two returns,in exactly 59 seconds, especially to the 49ers,was just special...
3:Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Baltimore Ravens:i have no love for the Ravens, but after getting beat seven straight times,by Ben Roethlisberger, the Ravens were hunting for Ben,and the Steelers... what was supposed to be perhaps "the game of the year",by the pundits, turned into a seven turnover stomping of the Steelers, that turned into a total laugher, when Baltimore hung a 35 spot on the Steelers' black and gold, beating them so bad that Pittsburgh threw the towel in,in the first half,if even then... it was so ugly, that Pittsburgh suffered seven turnovers in a game, for the first time in 16 years, and the score could have been even uglier than the final score of 35-7...

good news,bad news...

good news:Packers,42-34,over the New Orleans Saints...
good news:Aaron Rodgers looked very good at quarterback...
good news:offense looked sharp...
good news:Randall Cobb had a 108 yard kickoff return(tying NFL record-Ellis Hobbs,for New York Jets,had one too)...
bad news:Packers defense gave up 477 yards,to Drew Brees, and Saints' offense...
bad news:Brees made mince meat of Packers' defense, most of the night...
bad news:special teams,on both teams,stunk up Lambeau Field,most of night,giving up two returns,of 50 yards,or more,including a 72 yard punt return touchdown,to the Saints...
bad news(for the Saints):they screwed up two 4th downs, and they lost game...
good news:Packers' defense made goal line stand to win game, and stopped Saints, earlier in game,on 4th,and inches(at Packers' 7 yard line),by forcing Brees into throwing a wounded duck of pass, while backpedaling,at the Packers' 30 yard line...
good news:after that play,Packers drove 93 yards for winning touchdown,as it turned out...
and finally the best news:Packers won 42-34;a win is a win...

general NFL news, and update on Colts, and Peyton Manning...

Marques Colston,of the New Orleans Saints, suffered the same injury,as Charles Woodson did in Super Bowl XLV,a broken collarbone, and is out, they say, four weeks... expect five,or six weeks,my opinion... Terrelle Pryor has asked the NFLPA to appeal his five game suspension, levied by NFL,when he was drafted,by the Oakland Raiders,in third round of 2011 NFL supplemental draft, out of Ohio State... the NFL allowed players to wear league-approved gear to honor 9-11-01 victims, and survivors... they are red, white, and blue, and made for the most part,by Reebok... if Peyton Manning does not play ever again(in other words, retires)from this neck injury, which is,in my opinion,no chance?,the Indianapolis Colis have option to pay Manning severance pay,of $1 million,in 2012,and $500,000,in 2013,but he would have a $28 million,non-exercise fee,and a $28 million non-guaranteed option... if that option is not picked up,by Colts(and who would),the Colts would cut Manning, and he would be paid $26.4 million,in 2011... he signed a five year,$90 million contract,July 31st...

Packers' news...

Tramon Williams suffered a bruised right shoulder, last night, against the Saints...

NFL news... BREAKING NEWS...

Peyton Manning out indefinitely... had a single level anterior fusion,on his neck... was not put on injured reserve, because the Indianapolis Colts want to see how quickly how Manning rehabs, from the injury...

game score...

Packers 42,Saints 34... what a game!!!!!!!! Saints screwed up big time,on two 4th downs, and that was the difference... a win is a win!!!!!!!!! more later...

Thursday, September 8, 2011

NFL news...

Green Bay Packers play New Orleans Saints tonight;a matchup of last two Super Bowl winners, and that has not happened since 2000...

Wednesday, September 7, 2011

NFL news...

Indianapolis Colts' Peyton Manning will miss opener of 2011-2012 season, breaking ironman streak of 227 consecutive starts, including playoffs...

Tuesday, September 6, 2011

NFL news,and a small comment...

Tiki Barber's agent denies the report, filed by SI'S Peter King, that Barber is devastated that no NFL team has shown interest,in seeing if Barber has anything left,in the tank, after retiring in 2006... what is the real difference in being "flabbergasted about being passed over by 32 teams",and being devastated... basically the same thing... get over the semantics,Tiki!!!!!!!!!!

Monday, September 5, 2011

NFL news...

NFL suspended Indianapolis Colts' assistant coach Jim Tressel, six games, for his role,in the forthcoming sanctions,at Ohio State, where he was head coach, until last season... the Colts are spinning it,as Tressel's idea, but it is a NFL suspension, not Tressel's idea... he tried to do the same thing that Pete Carroll did last year, when Carroll jumped to the Seattle Seahawks, from the USC Trojans, but Tressel got caught at Ohio State doing funny stuff, and he tried to slither away from Ohio State,to the Indianapolis Colts, and the Colts hired him, knowing he was a real character... by the way,the only person that i respect,on the Colts' team,is Peyton Manning... the front office and the ownership,of the Colts should be really ashamed, for their real shady behaviour,in this matter... my opinion of the Colts, and Jim Tressel,is lower than an amoeba, and that is being kind... WAY TO GO,NFL,for your decision!!!!!!!

NFL news...

Indianapolis Colts report that they have listed Peyton Manning,as doubtful, for game, opening week, against Houston Texans... Peyton Manning has never missed a start, since drafted out of Tennessee... he is still recovering from off-season neck surgery...

Packers' news...

Saints have beaten the Packers three of the last four games, including 34-27,in Green Bay,on September 17,2006,and 52-29,on November 24,2008,in New Orleans, but the most lopsided win series, and Packers' win was 52-3,on October 9,2005,in Green Bay... Packers have an all-time series lead,of 14-7...

RIP Lee Roy Selmon...

Hall of Fame member Lee Roy Selmon has died,of a stroke, two days after being put into a hospital... he was surrounded by family, when he died... condolences to the family...

Saturday, September 3, 2011

Packers' news....

the Packers released 23 players, traded two,and placed two more on injured reserve, which ends those players' seasons... players released include running back Brandon Underwood,Ricky Elmore(draft pick, out of University of Arizona),and Chastin West, who lost out, because of team depth...

prayers for Lee Roy(update)...

Hall of Fame member Lee Roy Selmon is "alert and responsive",and squeezing his son's hand, and he recognized his family members, after reportedly suffering a stroke...

prayers for Lee Roy...

Hall of Fame member, and former Tampa Bay Buccaneers' player Lee Roy Selmon, reportedly,is in the hospital, after a stroke, and "in extremely critical" condition... my prayers go out to his family, and will be updated,as soon as this morning... the Selmon brothers(Lee Roy,and Dewey)were the best players, both defensive linemates,on the expansion team, and the early years,of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and were the linchpin to the team that lost to the Los Angeles Rams,9-0,in the 1979 NFC Championship game... in my honest opinion,Lee Roy Selmon was the best player,in Tampa Bay Buccaneers' history, without a doubt... to go from losing their first 26 games,in their existence,in 1976-1977,to the 1979 NFC Championship game,is a pure testament to the talent of the Selmon brothers,period...

Packers' news...

final roster cuts will be tomorrow, for the Packers... key players cut will be noted...

funny story...

NFL.com rank the NFL North the best division,of all of them, followed by the NFC East, and then the AFC East... it is still hooey, but something to laugh about, before the season...

Thursday, September 1, 2011

commentary...

Packers,3-1,in preseason;20-19,over Chiefs,tonight... simply said,Chiefs sucked in pre-season,and you play starters late into fourth quarter, like the Chiefs, and still lose,by a point(turning ball over,at least four times),to second string, and third string,in the Packers team, whose first string team had one drive in first period, and whose backup quarterback(Matt Flynn)had a horrible game, period),so the Chiefs was 0-4,in preseason... they may make playoffs, but if they do not play like champs, starting off(they won AFC West, last season),the division will not be as easy as last season, and they are in deep trouble... you can say that the preseason games do not matter, but come on,show a pulse as a team...

BREAKING NEWS...

Tennessee Titans, and Chris Johnson agree to four year,$53.5 million contract($30 million,guaranteed)...
