commentary...

Seattle Seahawks' backup Matt Flynn parlayed a six touchdown passes,480 yards passing win, against the Detroit Lions(in relief of Aaron Rodgers, who took day off)for the Packers(the last regular season game,in 2011),into a fat big contract(supposedly made $10 million, last year),and was brought in to be the starter, until Seattle drafted Russell Wilson in the third round,in last year's NFL Draft... now,Seattle wants to trade Flynn,to the Oakland Raiders, and the Raiders would like to restructure Flynn's contract for the trade, but Flynn is balking, and i do not blame him as much as you may think... for a guy who has two NFL starts in his NFL career,he may be arrogant in his belief that he is worth the money that he signed for,in Seattle, but Matt, you ARE NOT starting in Seattle, unless Wilson basically gets hurt,or goes bust(and that is not going to happen),so Matt,go somewhere else to get a chance to start, and the Raiders are going to give you a chance to start,in the NFL... question:is Flynn a certified NFL bust, like Scott Mitchell who parlayed a very good season,in Miami(in for an injured Dan Marino),for a big free agent contract for the Detroit Lions, but was 0-2 in the NFL playoffs, with Detroit, but honestly the Lions' team was motored by the jitterbug, and Hall of Fame member Barry Sanders the years that Mitchell was quarterback there... the Lions lost to the Packers in the playoffs, when "the old gunslinger" Brett Favre launched an unbelievable bomb when he rolled out to the left, and then found Sterling Sharpe in the right edge of the end zone, late in the game, and the Lions then lost to the Philadelphia Eagles,58-37,when Mitchell threw four interceptions, including at least one interception returned for a touchdown... Matt Flynn was the backup to a MVP(2011:Aaron Rodgers),while with the Packers, and could not beat out a 2012 NFL Draft third round pick,in Wilson,so is Flynn a certified bust, after possibly been traded only a year after signing a big fat free agent contract???

opinion of mine...

NFL.com have a bracket setting up the for the greatest play,in NFL history... my opinion:the greatest play in NFL history is the Immasculate Reception by the Pittsburgh Steelers,in a game against the Oakland Raiders,(the infamous Franco Harris play)...

commentary...

there is a report on the five strongest rosters In the NFL,listing in order,Seattle Seahawks,Denver Broncos,San Francisco 49ers,Atlanta Falcons, and the New England Patriots... the Packers just missed the list, along with other teams... my opinion:rosters do not win Super Bowls;i give you an example:Super Bowl XLV Champion Green Bay Packers, who had at least fifteen players on injured reserve, during the season,so basically you can flush that down the toilet, period

commentary...

in the NFL right now, there is not much news, except for trades and signings,of players... the Packers have been silent in free agency, signing no one,so far, which does suck,if you are a fan, because you want to "hype" the team, being active in free agency, but the Packers' organization may seem like hearing crickets,or snoozing, but they have signed some of their own players, like linebacker Brad Jones, but fans may be frustrated in the seeming lack of free agent activity,by the Packers... the rest of the NFC North have signed many free agents, but honestly the Bears(their front defensive seven,),the Lions(their defensive backfield),and the Vikings(their quarterback situation, mostly, and offensive line) have not improved a great deal,to deal with the overall talent of the Packers... the Packers really do have weaknesses,on defense, and offense:need a dominant pass rusher, alongside Clay Matthews, and they need depth on the offensive line(and Aaron Rodgers needs to release the football a little quicker to avoid some coverage sacks,(laughing)... only Detroit has a quarterback(Matthew Stafford) that can throw like Rodgers, but can the Lions' team defense(minus defensive end Cliff Avril) stop the top teams from scoring 25-30 points a game... Lions' receiver Calvin Johnson, and running back Reggie Bush, can score only so many points... the Bears have lost three of last year's defensive ends, via free agency, and linebacker Brian Urlacher will not be in Chicago, after thirteen years, playing defense for the Bears... the Vikings have a very young, but talented defensive backfield, like the Packers, but the problem with the Vikings is on the offensive side of the football, because of the inconsistency of quarterback Christian Ponder, and getting Matt Cassel(from Kansas City) does not help the situation, when Cassel has been 29-33,as a NFL starter... Ponder is very talented, but last year, without running back Adrian Peterson rushing for 2,097 yards, the Vikings would have been in trouble(and had trouble in moving the football down the field through the air),and yet,the addition of wide receiver Greg Jennings should help that, but how much is the $64,000 question for the Vikings, when they have only one certified deep threat(Jennings)the fact that Jennings has been injury-prone over the last two seasons(and the loss of Percy Harvin,to Seattle)may came back to bite the Vikings,in the backsides... so the NFC North will be interesting to watch, this upcoming season...

odd facts...

this may change(most likely, will change),but there are two teams,in the NFL,as of right now, that have not signed a free agent,yet... the Packers, and Dallas Cowboys...

commentary...

to treat a future Hall of Fame member, with an one year,$2 million contract offer, after thirteen years playing lights-out defense for the Chicago Bears, the Bears have simply insulted linebacker Brian Urlacher, and i have been a fan of Brian Urlacher, ever since he played safety,at the University of New Mexico, his freshman season... i honestly despise the Bears' management a little more, because they basically treated Urlacher like a piece of rancid meat out in the sunlight, for days... way to go,DA BEARS!!!!!!!!!!!

commentary...

two low points in the Packers' season were the 409 yards given up,by the Packers' defense,to Minnesota Vikings' running back Adrian Peterson,in three games(both division games, and a playoff game),and the 181 yards given up to the 49ers' quarterback Colin Kaepernick during the 45-31 destruction,of the Packers,at Candlestick Park... Head Coach Mike McCarthy has said that the Packers' defense has to really improve this upcoming season, and on that i agree with McCarthy, because those games really blackened the eye of a rather decent defensive season,numbers-wise,and yet,you only remember those games, overall, last season, and that stinks up Lambeau Field,in the minds of Packers' fans, and shareholders... the Packers' offense is one of the best passing attacks,in the NFL,and even though, they may not have a top-tier running attack, last season, they did really improve, overall,in that respect... the Packers' defense were in the middle of the NFL,numbers-wise,but they were known to be able to give up yards on the ground the last two seasons, but without a dominant pass rusher alongside the impressive "Claymaker" Clay Matthews, they have the reputation to be a soft defense, and yet, injuries the last two years,to the middle of their defense, makes them a middle of the road defense, even though they have a very young, but very good defensive secondary... so the 2013 NFL draft is very critical to the Packers' chances, this upcoming season,period...

big surprise out of Chicago...

linebacker Brian Urlacher, and the Chicago Bears agree to part ways, after being unable to come to terms on a new contract, for 2013 NFL season...

commentary...

i am beginning to really dislike Minnesota Vikings' wide receiver Greg Jennings... after seven seasons,as a Green Bay Packers' wide receiver,he went to Minnesota, after reports indicate that he passed on a $10 million dollar contract to stay with the Packers, fine, but things with the Packers must not been that good, because he wants to tell everyone that he is happy in Minnesota, which is fine, but there is a report that Brett Favre aided him with his Vikings' contract, but he is twisting the knife in basically saying that the Vikings are better than the Packers... to Greg,i say this:how many passes can Christian Ponder throw, when basically you are the only offensive deep threat on the roster??? that is the reason that, right now,you have gone to an inferior offensive team, and when you come back to Lambeau Field, you will be booed,as you should be!!!!!!!!!!!

NFL news...

infamous "tuck rule" has been eliminated, and offensive, and defensive players can not use the crown of the helmet(top of the head),as a battering ram(lowering the head)outside the tackle box(between the tackles)... two of six rule changes next season in the NFL...

Tuesday, March 19, 2013

Packers' news...

the Packers have said that it is a priority to sign quarterback Aaron Rodgers to a new long term contract, before the season, according to reports, basically saying that(paraphrasing it)Rodgers is underpaid, and that the Packers do not want to go into Rodgers' "contract" year, which would be the season after next,as he does have two seasons left on the six year contract that Rodgers signed in 2008...

Monday, March 18, 2013

NFL news...

the NFL established a $42 million retired player benefit fund to try to settle some of the lawsuits, against them... court hearings are coming up... to the league,it will apply to any player ever on a NFL roster...

commentary...

Greg Jennings actually took more money from the Minnesota Vikings(five years,$47.5 million,$18 million, guaranteed),and yet, there are reports that the Packers offered somewhat around $8 million/a year, and the New England Patriots offered around $6 million/a year... business is business,i know, but to pass up a chance,at a second Super Bowl, either with Brady,or Rodgers, makes no sense... he passed a $10 million/a year pay day, earlier on the negotiations, with the Packers... i will boo him lustfully, like i did Saint Brett, but Brett had one thing that Jennings does not have;total class, and do you believe that i may have some bitterness toward Jennings, you are damn right, because he went for a greedy payday,in Minnesota, and i know business is business, but i really hope we thump on the traitor for five years(the ten plus times we face the Vikings, over that time),because i do not appreciate the fact that Jennings is being really greedy,in getting his big payday,so thump away Packers, every time he faces my team, the Green Bay Packers... now,it is very personal...

Packers' news...

the Packers restructured linebacker A.J. Hawk's contract... terms not available...

Saturday, March 16, 2013

commentary...

Packer fans are somewhat depressed, because the team has done very little in free agency this year,so far... that is a fact, but let us get to what the Chicago Bears,Detroit Lions, and Minnesota Vikings have done,so far,in free agency... the Bears have added an offensive lineman(Jermon Bushrod),and a tight end(Martellus Bennett),to their offense, but their front seven,on defense,is their main weakness on their team, because they are aging, and a little long in the tooth, and they may lose linebacker Brian Urlacher to retirement,or to a short-term deal, which means the Bears have to improve their front seven on defense, and the Bears have not done that,yet... the Lions have added a running back(Reggie Bush),retained most of their secondary, but lost Cliff Avril, their dominant pass rusher... the Vikings have added wide receiver Greg Jennings, and backup quarterback Matt Cassel to their offense, but their defense has remained static... Can Jennings make that much difference, when they did lose Percy Harvin,to Seattle... funny thing is that nothing i honestly see in free agency signings scare me,at all, because Jennings,Bush, and Bennett all have negative factors that may shadow their overall talent:Jennings, injuries the last two years,Bush is a jitterbug, but is he getting old,football-wise,and Bennett has been known to drop passes at critical times(did that in Dallas, for the Cowboys, and in New York, with the Giants),even though he really has talent... even though the Packers lost Erik Walden, and Charles Woodson,Walden was a backup most of the last two years, and Woodson, even though i have utmost respect for him,he has lost a step in covering fast wide receivers... the offense for the Packers does need a running back, but basically they have players that can do that by committee, and their receiving corps, even without Jennings, has not changed that much, and that is a very good thing, because they learned to how to thrive without an injured Jennings... the best quarterback in NFC North happens to be Aaron Rodgers, for the Packers, and until that really changes, the Packers are the team to beat, even though, honestly, the division has been became tougher to play, without a doubt... the defense is younger but perhaps has the most talented secondary,in the NFC North, since 2010,when the Packers won Super Bowl XLV...

Breaking News...

it was just reported within the last ten minutes that Greg Jennings has agreed to a five year contract, with the Minnesota Vikings... terms not available... good riddance...

commentary...

the Packers usually build through the NFL draft,so it is not a surprise that there has been no big news coming out of Green Bay... basically, free agent wide receiver Greg Jennings is deciding on whether he will be playing for the Packers,or the Minnesota Vikings, next season... he passed on a ten million dollar contract,as reports indicate, with the Packers, and because the fact that he was injured last season, chances are that he will not get that much, with the Vikings, next season, and the simple fact that his quarterbacks,in Minnesota, would be Christian Ponder, and Matt Cassel,or in Green Bay,it would be Aaron Rodgers may hold things up... who would you like to catch a touchdown pass from??? however,i may be full of manure, and Jennings goes for the money to an inferior offensive team, good riddance... in that case,i will boo him every time he catches a pass... if Jennings is greedy,so be it...

NFL news...

Wes Welker signed a two year/$12 million contract, with the Denver Broncos...

new direction for Catholics...

Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio,of Argentina, became Pope Francis I,today...

commentary...

the problem with the Chicago Bears and the Detroit Lions upgrading their offenses during free agency,so far,is the fact that good offenses will slice and dice their defenses:in the case of the Bears, their weakness is their front seven, and in the case of the Lions, there are two weaknesses, and that would be a dominant pass rusher(by the way, that is a weakness for the Packers, too, but their outlook is coming soon),and their secondary is not that strong in Detroit,period... that is the main reason why the Lions went from a playoff team,in 2011,to a 4-12 team that really sucked, because if your team could easily out-score the Lions... another reason that Detroit really sucked last season were the inflated egos on the team, especially on defense...

comments...

as i type this, there is a report that free agent wide receiver Greg Jennings passed on a $10 million/a year contract, with the Packers... the longer that Jennings is on free market,it appears that he may be back in Green Bay,but there is one team, who needs a wide receiver quite badly, and that is the Minnesota Vikings, but Jennings has said that he does not like playing outdoors,as the Vikings will play outdoors for the next two years,so stay tuned...

commentary...

i may not like Philadelphia Eagles' quarterback Michael Vick,as a player, because i "hate" the Philadelphia Eagles(i am not serious, folks),but, folks,to boycott his book signings at New York,Pennsylvania, and Atlanta Georgia's Barnes and Noble bookstores,is fine, but there was a story on the NFL.com website of threats to Vick, causing the book chain to cancel the book signings... as you may recall,Vick did serve nineteen moths in federal prison, because of animal cruelty(dog fighting, and other charges)... i do not condone what he did,he did his time(paid his debt to society,as old timers say),and he has grown up in many ways... however, this is to the yokels, idiots, and morons who have threatened Vick, with basically bodily harm to cause Barnes and Noble to cancel Vick's book signings,in three states... to you,i say:GROW UP,AND LEAVE HIM ALONE,because he is trying to reform his reputation,by doing some very good things,in Atlanta, and Philadelphia,in those communities... to be mad about what Vick did,and about what happened so many years ago, makes the people who have threatened Vick seem to be people who are simply crazy, and it is idiotic, and moronic to threaten Michael Vick, after that many years, and that he paid for the crimes,in federal prison... like i said earlier,i am not a fan of the Eagles,or Vick, but he is a person who deserves a second chance to get his life back(and he has changed in many ways)... as an American,i would stand and fight for his right,to be a person who has changed his outlook on life... to those idiots, morons, and yokels who never got over what Vick did:i say,put that hatred in your ear,and shut up...

NFL news...

Minnesota Vikings trade wide receiver Percy Harvin,to the Seattle Seahawks, for the Seahawks' first round, and seventh round pick,in 2013,and a mid-round pick,in 2014... personally,i honestly believe it is perhaps the biggest mistake that Minnesota could have done, this off-season,and running back Adrian Peterson called it,"a gut kick"...

childhood memory...

one of my favorite childhood memories happened forty two years ago,today... Muhammad Ali,and Joe Frazier were unbeaten, when they fought their first of their three legendary fights,at Madison Square Garden... Ali lost an unanimous 15 round decision, and Frazier knocked him down with a classic left hook, early in the 15th round... he did complain about the loss to Frazier,in public, but in private,he admitted the loss to Frazier,to friends... i watched the fight, live,at the Alhambra Theatre(now demolished),in Sacramento,on closed circuit television... i still have the tickets for the fight, that night, believe it,or not... what a memory, and a great fight...

comments...

Seattle Seahawks' cornerback Richard Sherman is this year's blabbermouth... he tore into ESPN commentator Skip Bayless belittled him,and embarrassed him on ESPN First Take,yesterday... honestly,i do not feel sorry for Bayless, because he is basically a clueless bigmouth,anyway... his arguments with fellow ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith, over the years, have been entertaining, and legendary, with Bayless looking like a real jerk, most of the time... so,to see Bayless eat real crow, was enjoyable to see,period...

commentary...

New York Jets' cornerback Darrelle Revis wants to stay in New York, with the Jets, but is the relationship between the player and the Jets' owner,Woody Johnson beyond repair, and the complications caused by the salary cap,and the flatness of such cap raises the possibility of a trade... the owner-player relationship between Revis and Johnson was shaken up,by two player holdouts, one when he was drafted, and the second holdout was when he signed his last contract, with the Jets, and the fact that he is coming off a severe knee injury makes a trade likely, and yet, when healthy,Revis is the best shutdown corner, since Hall of Fame member Deion "Primetime" Sanders played in the NFL,so it is anybody's guess what will happen in the circus' "clown car",that the Jets have become,recently...

Packers' news...

many sources report that the Green Bay Packers are getting ready to talk to quarterback Aaron Rodgers about a new contract... he has two years left on a six year contract, signed in 2008,and is supposed to make $9.25 million, this upcoming season-a real bargain compared to some quarterback contracts recently... the timing for the talks are not known...

blog statement...

there is very little news,on the NFL front, right now,and that does suck... i am sorry that i would love to talk about football, but to talk about transactions between the 32 teams,is rather boring, and just giving you the easy news just to fill the space,is simply wrong... i will be back on this blog tomorrow, and i need a break, not a long one,but still a break is needed...
