ode to the Mizpah...

the event that i am going to talk about happened on October 31,2006,up in Reno,Nevada... there was a historic hotel up there called the Mizpah... it was built in 1922,and was on the Historic Places Register,of the United States... it was a very unique, and beautiful hotel... going through the hallways was like going through a maze, but if you knew the hotel, you went through the hotel like a stiff breeze... the residents were a mixture of people, but they were great people... it was destroyed by arson that Halloween night,in 2006... why would i talk about this, now? well, when up in Reno,i stayed there so much that i knew every inch of that beautiful hotel... even now,i still miss it,and i may not be the only one... i knew the owners very well, and even got discounts on room rates, though the room rates were the cheapest in town, but honestly,i would have stayed there for nothing, because i adored that hotel... the night that it was engulfed in flames,i was planning my usual trip up to Reno, and was stunned and absolutely heartbroken,by its destruction... the first trip up to Reno, after the fire for me was years after the fire, and the hotel site was asphalt, with a fence around it... i stood there for about five minutes, and was again,heartbroken... twelve people died in the fire that Halloween night, perhaps many of those that i did know... to their memories, and to the memory of a great hotel,i write this...
