more stories of the road...

how many people have seen both ends of the Grand Canyon??? well,i am one of those people, who honestly have seen Lake Powell,Arizona, and Lake Mead/Hoover Dam,Nevada/Arizona(the dam dissects the border)... i actually walked from Boulder City,Nevada,to within two miles of Hoover Dam(the road to the dam is a two lane road with no walkway for people, the last two miles),before... trivia:what city in Nevada is not allowed by law to have gambling in their city limits??? the reason is simple:the city was built, because of the construction of Hoover/Boulder Dam... in an agreement with the U.S. Government, the city agreed not to have gambling... right there are two huge hints to the answer... one, two, three, the answer is Boulder City,folks... now, there is a huge bridge across the Colorado, and the Hoover Dam is limited to auto traffic, with no trucks allowed... on the day that i walked from Boulder City to Hoover Dam,it was a cloudless day, about 80 degrees, and just beautiful, and then when i got to the dam(a ride from someone with Montana license plates),i then walked another six miles into the beautiful Arizona desert... no one stops to just look at the scenery, but folks,it is very beautiful... another walk i took was from Carson City to South Lake Tahoe/Stateline,Nevada/California was just as beautiful,too... one day,i got very very tired of being in Carson(locals call it that),i deeply wanted to get home to Sacramento, and i did not want to go through Reno, again(i got very tired of that route),so i decided to walk to South Lake Tahoe, south out of Carson, and i did... it took most of the morning, and i got to a tunnel that did not have walkways for people,so i waited for a ride(not long),and then got into Stateline, and somehow finagled(a church helped)a bus ticket home... i remember the walk on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe, from Carson, was a very dusty one,but honestly South Lake Tahoe looked absolutely beautiful... the sight of Lake Tahoe made my day,i have to admit... i remember the donut shop/bus station in Rancho Cordova, but i was so tired when i got back to Sacramento that i slept the rest of the day/night... i do not remember where, but i didn't care one bit... i was home, and that is all what matters... note:even a couple of years ago,i ran into a couple who wanted to go to Sacramento,at Circus, and I-80 was slower than crud, because of the construction that was being done,so i told them of the route out of Carson(U.S. 50),and they took it home...
