every NFL team plays their last preseason game on September 3rd... so,they can prepare for the season...

injury update...

Packers' wide receiver Randall Cobb has suffered a minor AC joint sprain... whether he will play, week one, against DA BEARS is the question...

Packers' history...

in 1921,the Green Bay Packers were actually booted out of the NFL,for using three University of Notre Dame players that were college eligible, but by the next League meeting, they were reinstated by the NFL,so they missed zero games... was Green Bay always the smallest city who had a NFL team??? technically,no... Tonawanda,New York had a team called the Kardex, but the team was designated a traveling team, and lasted one game... the first home of the Packers was Hagemeister Park,a converted baseball park...

Packers' preseason game score...

Eagles 39,Packers 26... garbage time made score closer... note:will know about injuries tomorrow...

memories of a fourteen year old boy...

one of the most tragic, and brutal events of the Civil Rights era happened 60 years ago,today... simply said, the death of 14 year old Emmett Till... after brutally murdering him,he was found in the Tallahatchie River, three days after his brutal death... note:remembering what happened is only right... to his memory,i give a hat tip...

Packers' news...

Packers' wide receiver Randall Cobb, reports say,has an injured shoulder...

Packers' game in progress...

Eagles 25,Packers 0... the game is still in first quarter... the Packers are playing their third string quarterback... do not expect much... the Packers' offense has not done much,so the Packers' defense is on the field too much... Randall Cobb got rolled up,and went to the locker room with training staff... no updates on injuries,yet... no one is happy on sideline... note:Rodgers is being rested... UGLY!!!!!

Packers' news...

Philadelphia Eagles/Packers,tonight...

more stories "on the road"...

folks,i truly miss "the road" for many reasons... i do not mean the tough times, like sleeping under trees,or on cement,or even once in a three foot shrub, outside a Diamond Shamrock,in Aurora,Colorado... how i did that is still a mystery to me... i mean walking this great country,in places and cities that people simply forgot, because there is some scenery that is unforgettable to see, like walking in the desert, outside Yerington,Nevada, down Alternate US 95(i almost passed out from the heat, and got very ill),in Zion National Park,on a full moon night, when the walls of the canyon shine from the reflection of the moon, walking down US 30,in rural Nebraska, crossing the North Platte River, and seeing a state historical marker in this dirt parking lot that very few people ever see,or walking west of Granby,Colorado to Steamboat Springs,in one day, down US 40,through a river canyon of the Yampa River... what a beautiful walk!!! that is i really miss:the beautiful scenery of the country... funny thing is that the day before that beautiful walk,i walked out of Estes Park,Colorado, into Rocky Mountain National Park, and a walk that i will never forget, because i have seen some scenery that was unforgettable, like being stopped in a curve in the two lane road, and putting out the thumb, and while it is sunny in the park,it actually snowed on my head... it was over 12,000 feet in altitude, and i will never forget that...

commentary...

the San Francisco 49ers,this season, have lost, now, eighteen people off last season's team... in 2012,they were in the Super Bowl, and lost to the Baltimore Ravens,34-31... this year, there is only one player on the defensive roster who started that game, and NaVorro Bowman is coming off an severely injured knee... the front office,in my opinion,is like the San Jose Sharks, and if you know what i think about the Sharks' front office, that is not good... the team looks like the frat house, from "Animal House"...  with the misdemeanor indictment of Ahmad Brooks for what he did in December 2014,while at a party, the 49ers sadly look like a team in severe disarray, and i feel very sorry, sincerely, for the true fans, because the 49ers do not seem to care about them,at all... Trent Baalke, their general manager, gave a real lame statement of how the team reacted to Brooks' actions... Brooks was just indicted, true, but the 49ers knew what happened months ago... i used to be a 49ers' fan growing up,but honestly,as a NFL owner,i am ashamed of how the 49ers have been this off-season,as a NFL team... they are a laughingstock to the fans, teams, and to the NFL...

blog statement...

i am saddened to note WDBJ TV's Alison Parker's,and cameraman Adam Ward's death... may their family be comforted today, and prayers be given to them!!!

commentary...

when Pro Football Hall of Fame members David "Deacon" Jones and Dick Butkis played in the mid-60's and early 70's,the game was much different... they had attitudes that the opposing teams were "the enemy",and tried to beat them anyway they could... i quoted them both in a previous blog post from separate interviews from about fifteen years ago saying that, when they both played they meant to tackle the ballcarriers harshly... the quotes are factually correct, with my paraphrasing the exact quotes of "ripping their heads off"(Jones said that in referring to sacking the quarterback;he also meant to tackle the quarterback hard*) "and breaking their backs"(Butkis said that,in referring to tackling the ball carrier, meaning that he wanted to tackle him hard),but that is what they said in an interview, because that is how the NFL was played back then... off the field, they were gentle giants, but on the field, they were animals, and they would agree to that... *according to many people,Jones holds the quarterback sack record, but back then the NFL did not count that as a record...

commentary...

the player with the best pure talent in the NFL is Minnesota Vikings' running back Adrian Peterson, without a doubt... however:rarely does the best player win the Lombardi Trophy... it is a team sport, and always be... there are players who have the "killer" instinct in the NFL... i admired the late, great David "Deacon" Jones and Dick Butkis growing up,because they played to win every down on the football field, both of them said in interviews that (Jones)"he wanted to rip off the ballcarrier's head off every time he tackled him",and (Butkis) "he wanted to break the ballcarrier's back every time he tackled him"... i am paraphrasing both, but you get the idea what they meant... they did everything on the field to win the game... in fact,Butkis played the last three years of his Hall of Fame career with knees that were so bad that his doctor told him to retire... he refused... there are three quarterbacks, who i would not like to face,if on defense, with two minutes left,in a game... i can not name the best of the three, and will not do it... all three quarterbacks have the true never say die spirit of Dick Butkis, and David "Deacon" Jones... who are they??? answer:(not in order)Tom Brady,Russell Wilson, and Aaron Rodgers... personally,i prefer Rodgers in that role, but all three will put "the knife" into your hopes of a win,if you face them with two minutes left in a critical game...

i will talk about what the Packers will do in place of Jordy Nelson,tomorrow... it is not as dire as you may think that it may be,folks... stay tuned!!!!

commentary...

i am fired up,now, folks!!!! that is how i ended a recent blog post... this is my opinion, and nobody else's,and if you disagree, tough crud!!!! since Jordy Nelson's injury, there have been pundits who may believe that the rest of the NFC North has a chance to win that division... well,i strongly disagree, and no disrespect to Adrian(Peterson),Calvin(Johnson),or even Matt(Forte),and Jay(Cutler)meant,at all,but there is only one player who is indispensable in that division, and that is two-time NFL MVP Packers' quarterback Aaron Rodgers... you take all the players named and give them injuries, and their teams do suffer, but they still win games, you give Aaron an extended break due to injury, and the Packers sink faster than a lead weight while fishing, because he is simply the best quarterback in the NFL... two examples:when Aaron went down with a broken clavicle a couple years ago,the Packers struggled to win the division, and only Aaron, throwing a 48 yard pass to Randall Cobb, with 36 seconds left,in Chicago,in week seventeen, won the division, that year(they were 7-7-1,at the time)... one of the greatest plays in Packers' history, and i still smile,to this day, about that pass... second example:in 2011,playing the New York Giants,on a cold day,in New Jersey,Packers win with a field goal, with seconds left, but what was amazing is that Aaron MOVED the team down the field, going basically down the ENTIRE field,in 53 seconds... no other quarterback could have done what Aaron did,in those games,on those particular days... NO ONE!!!! you may disagree with me,but i do not care a whit if you do... i say,so be it!!!!

comments...

i will have something to say about the injury to Packers' wide receiver Jordy Nelson, and the apparent glee by some of the media,"that now they(Lions, and Vikings, have a chance to win the NFC North"-as one television play by play man said, during a preseason game, this week(what a biased opinion!!!!),and what the Packers will do,in terms of improving their team offense??? tomorrow,i will talk about that... my opinion:simply said, until you take quarterback Aaron Rodgers off the field, then the other NFC North opponents have a chance... in 2010,the Packers had fifteen players on injured/reserve,and folks, who won Super Bowl XLV!!!! the Green Bay Packers!!!! why, folks, because they had Rodgers under center, and a very good defense...  folks, pundits have said that this may be the best defense that the Packers have had since 2010,this season... remember that!!!! i am fired up,NOW,folks!!!! GO PACK GO!!!!!

Packers' preseason game two game score...

Pittsburgh Steelers 24,Packers 19... good game for the first string team offense, and team defense, except for the unfortunate injury to Jordy Nelson... i guess that it is the time for the young receiving corps to man up...

NFL,and Packers' news...

it appears that Packers' wide receiver Jordy Nelson has suffered a non-contact injury, tearing his ACL(anterior cruciate ligament),in the preseason game against the Steelers,on the Packers' first drive... i guess Davante Adams will get his chance to start, alongside Randall Cobb... like in 2010,it will be,"NEXT MAN UP",when the Packers lost fifteen players to injured/reserve,and still won Super Bowl XLV... note:even if with the loss of Nelson,it will be time for the young Packers' receiving corps to man up,and stand up...

a day to remember...

i am having a real emotional day today... there are a few people that i truly miss,today... my soulmate,my dearly departed mother,my UNC(uncle Bob),and a few more that i could count, but this would be a novel in size,if i did name them... tomorrow is my 56th birthday, and i wish that i could hear their voices say to me,"Happy Birthday",because that would be magical and special for me... folks, you have no idea what those people have done for me over the years... without them, and other people,i would not be the man that i am on this day before my birthday... they all had an enormous effect on me growing up,and as i went on in my life, and they still do,without a doubt... i will be up at midnight, wishing myself a Happy Birthday, like every year since i was thirteen,up in Reno, and in my ears,i will solemnly hear all of them say ,"Happy Birthday",to me... to them all,i give a hat tip, with respect...

a simple statement...

folks,i have talked a great deal about my time "on the road" lately... people may not understand why??? that time "on the road" really changed me in so many ways that i can not tell you without getting very sad, and, yet,it made me grow up in ways that no one will ever understand... folks, you can make jokes, and honestly,i do laugh, but the time(a decade)that i spent "on the road" did really change my life... i am honestly a little more nasty, when provoked, and, yet,i deeply understand what the person who i see on the streets is going through every day,and like the old saying says, unless you have walked a mile in my shoes, you have no idea what i have been through... in my case, that is never more true... people have asked me if i would change anything about that decade "on the road",if i could go back to do it... honestly,a very few small things would be changed, but the vast majority of what i went through i would not change a thing, because i learned so very much, while "on the road"... i mention hitchhiking 50,000 miles "on my thumb",and to tell you the absolute truth,i wish i would have done more miles, because seeing scenery that people have truly forgotten about, like walking down U.S. 66,in Kingman,Arizona, stopping at a hotel that people have forgotten about, and staying in a room that actually goes back to the 1930's;nothing changed, but, perhaps, the mattress, and the television, but it is like stepping back decades, and living simply, for a day... actually, what a rush...  i did that many times in a decade, because i traveled to places that people simply have forgotten about... i drank enough coffee to float a battleship,in that decade, been cursed at,tossed out of many places, but i never lost my dignity, and never forgot who i was... people gave me much grief,i lost many a friend, and some people hated me,but to me,those people do not matter one bit, because it is their loss, not mine... for those people,i simply say:who honestly cares who you are, what you think about, and believe about me??? i survived,i am stronger, tougher than you ever could be,"tougher than iron",and that is what is most important to me...

more stories "on the road"...

i have had people ask me if i would change anything that i did, while i was "on the road"... there are a few things that i would do differently, now, but at that time,i did things that i honestly had to do to survive, and yet, honestly, down deep, changing those things would change destiny, and history, and i would be a much different person now,if things were changed, even one day... three examples:living in Washington state with UNC,and me "not" coming back to find my soulmate,in Sacramento...  getting married to my soulmate,in Las Vegas,to my soulmate,in May,1993... not getting frustrated with my walking the streets in Orange County California,in early May 1994,and not setting my compass first to Las Vegas, then Denver, and finally going to NYC,for the first time in fifteen years,Memorial Day weekend, that year, and ending up on the phone,at a grocery store in Branford,Connecticut, literally gambling on the fact that my dear friend,Michele, would be home(she was flying for United Airlines;still does),and she picked up the phone... honestly,i had no idea,at the time,if she would be home... parts of the story i have told:getting to Connecticut is the part of the story that i will flesh out now... let me re-rack it to you:i got onto a Greyhound bus to Newark,in Greeley,Colorado... in New Jersey,i got onto a New Jersey Transit bus going north, actually got lost in Oradell,New Jersey, and was walking on the New Jersey Turnpike, somehow crossed the state border from New Jersey to New York,so someone dialed 911,and a Rockland County,New York deputy sheriff picked me up,took me to the sheriff's office... they talked to me,and gave me a county bus pass to White Plains,New York, then i took the subway to Grand Central Station, and found the Metro North line to New Haven, took the absolute last train out to New Haven, got there at 2:15 am,started walking north, found a Dunkin Donuts, ate most of six double chocolate donuts, and then after that ran after a city bus(it was Sunday),so when i got back to the New Haven Green,i finally found the bus line to Branford, stopped at a grocery store, behind the high school, and called her... i have told people of this trip many times, but the facts remain:how many things in this story have to go absolutely perfect for this story to be very memorable... Everything!!!! what are the odds of everything being absolutely perfect??? the odds would be so great that Las Vegas would post then at 1,000,000,000 to 1,or even more... we spent two memorable days together(i still smile about those days),until she had to fly out of Newark... the fact is that if things had changed even one day,to this day,i would not be the same person,period...

bad news for DA BEARS(laughing),and, especially, quarterback Jay Cutler...

well, for DA BEARS fans, the seventh overall 2015 NFL Draft pick was supposed to help out a struggling team offense... Kevin White, out of West Virginia, suffered a shin injury early in organized team activities(OTA's),and was resting the injury early in training camp, and said just yesterday that he was "just about ready" to return to the practice field... that was yesterday, but today,DA BEARS announced that White would have leg surgery, put on the PUP(player unable to perform)list, and miss,at least, the first six games of the 2015-2016 NFL season... DA BEARS privately believe that White might miss the entire season... unfortunately, for DA BEARS,the first opponent for the DA BEARS,for the 2015-2016 NFL season(at home,to boot)are the Packers... i do feel sorry for White(a very little),but this is DA BEARS/Packers,and with an offense that looked like lumpy oatmeal, last season, and now,on paper, very little changes,at least for the first six games,DA BEARS look like the same old DA BEARS team... question:how many times has DA BEARS' quarterback Jay Cutler beaten the Packers, with Aaron Rodgers under center, for the Packers??? answer:twice, but have to remind you stalwart DA BEARS fans, that one time,Rodgers suffered a broken clavicle, during the first drive of a DA BEARS/Packers game so i do not really count that,so Cutler has beaten a healthy Rodgers just once... so,welcome to your recurring nightmare,Jay... you are going to need major help to beat Aaron,again... i have to talk trash about DA BEARS,and i do not apologize for it... i guess i will roll out my favorite saying, early, folks:DA BEARS SUCK!!!!! one,two,three...DA BEARS SUCK!!!!!

a strange night,folks,indeed...

i sometimes get bad insomnia... well,i have it tonight... i have been thinking of many people that i deeply miss... a few of them are still alive, and the others are in my heart,a sometimes broken heart, but i still miss them deeply... people may not understand that, but i still remember some people who i only met a few times in my past, but you may be very surprised that they had a very deep effort on me,even now,and they never knew that, like the bread delivery person at the neighborhood Albertson's,who would give me free bread and food out of the truck most of the time that i lived near the supermarket, the person who listened to me complain, and moan about the crud that i was going through, and never said a word, but gave me encouragement, while i was griping no end,or the people who would give jobs to me,instead of money... jobs included:detailing cars, cleaning houses, being a laundry cleaner,a door to door salesman,a church gardener,or a hotel housekeeper/jack of all trades... i owe them all so much that i can not tell you how much... so,i say good night, now, with thoughts of people who honestly kept me alive,at various times, while "on the road"... what a night!!!!

birthdays,holidays,and my soulmate...

my birthday is coming up this week... two odd things that i want to talk about is the fact that the last time that i celebrated my birthday out of town was 1999,and that is strange, because back then, while "on the road",it was spent in a theatre, watching movies, because usually,i was alone on a holiday,or a birthday, and where i was at the time,it was sweaty hot,and i got tired of sweating in the sun,so i spent most holidays or birthdays in theatres, throughout the nation... my soulmate would usually pick an argument a couple days before a holiday,or both of our birthdays,so we rarely spent those days together, which was a real shame, because i would have loved to spend the holidays,or our birthdays, with her... to tell you the truth,in thirteen and half years of knowing each other,we spent exactly one Thanksgiving,Christmas,or our mutual birthdays(exactly one of each),in thirteen and a half years... i only saw her cry once,in thirteen and a half years, about the immense pain that she must have been in,and not knowing what honestly to do,i just walked away... i still regret that,to this day, because if i had stayed there, maybe she would have told me about the pain that she was in,but honestly,i do not know that she would have told me anything, and folks,if i had known, really known, just maybe, things would have been different, but again, who really knows??? answer will never be known, and what a real shame!!! i really never understood why she always seemed to pick an argument, right before those special(to me,they were special)days, but thinking back now,i believed that she just wanted to be alone with her two boys,or by herself... that is an educated guess,i believe... i remember many nights just watching her sleep in her hospital bed(she had one in her last apartment, and me sitting in a recliner, and her sleeping, after a real hard day of her being tough, and trying to be a rock for her family)... after about fifteen minutes,i would quietly get up,and simply walk into another room, giving a blown kiss to her,as i left... i still miss those nights deeply... in the hospital,in 1999,she lost so much weight, that she weighed forty six pounds, when she died... she asked me one time that if i still thought that she was beautiful, even though she lost so much weight... of course,i told her yes,i still thought that she was beautiful... to me,her beauty was more heartfelt than physical, and i simply loved her eyes, because looking into her eyes, and her soft voice would simply melt my heart, and she never lost that to me... i still miss her, because i can still see those beautiful blue eyes in my sleep, and that is most important to me,period...

an odd week...

this week has been very strange for me... doing nothing is not strange, but to check my bank account and then finding something that appeared wrong,in my account is strange... first, thinking that the bank had screwed up,i then called to check and re-checked it online(the bank did nothing wrong),it then appeared that my disability payment had been overpaid... well,i have been very sore with a neck, and head pain for a couple days,so i delayed doing it... well, folks,it appears that my disability payment was right, after all... they told me in a letter that they owed me the money, because they owed my late mother some money... at least, for this month,i am fine... isn't that strange,folks...

Packers' pre-season game one score...

Packers 22,New England Patriots 11... a rather good game for a pre-season opener, but after both starting offenses looking so rusty, including Aaron Rodgers, and Tom Brady, the Packers led only 3-0,after one period, and the defenses were ahead of both offenses,by a long shot... ugly games for both starting quarterbacks,period... Rodgers had so many dropped balls that it was like he was a rookie, and Brady had only four passes, and a couple three and outs,so he did nothing,in this game... they will be much better... both second string, and third string quarterbacks were very good, but honestly, when you have scrubs out there, you may look like Peyton Manning in his prime... so both teams will be better...

commentary...

what is wrong with NFL Network??? they have training camp look-ins,supposedly from every training camp, but they must have a bias, besides seeing the Packers riding bicycles into camp, there has been very little coverage of Aaron Rodgers and company,if not,no coverage... i have seen the Seahawks,Patriots, even the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the Tennessee Titans, but not covering Aaron Rodgers,Eddie Lacy,Clay Matthews, and not to see a great one-handed touchdown grab by Davante Adams on national television(i saw it on the Packers' app),is almost a crime,if not a real shame... i know that the Packers play the Patriots on NFL Network on Thursday,in their pre-season opener, but to have nothing, but Marshawn Lynch,or Tom Brady,on NFL Network,is absolutely is criminal,period... note:i guess you do have a bias,NFL Network, and that is a real shame, and you are acting moronic,period...

my opinion...

last night's Hall of Fame ceremony was rather good, except for two speeches:Tim Brown's speech was just meandering, thanking everybody, but the plumber in his hometown, and after about 20 minutes,i had a very, very hard time listening to him going on and on... i even turned off the volume a few times... Junior Seau's daughter,Sydney did a nice job,but to see Seau's mother crying over and over, was just way too much... i just wanted to throw something at my television at that point... that may not be your opinion, but it is my opinion... so be it...

a seemingly wasted football life...

the problem with former San Francisco 49ers' linebacker Aldon Smith is that he has been arrested five separate times,in just over three years, and he denied yesterday to the 49ers' brass that it had to do with his third DUI,in three years, and would not take responsibility for what happened yesterday... he believes that he is simply above the law,and nothing applies to him,and has believed that, since he was drafted by the 49ers... the NFL should suspend him for,at least,a year, and maybe more(this is not the first time that he has faced suspension,by the NFL),because he is the ultimate diva,he does not want help, and does not care about anybody, but himself... his immense talent has been wasted,on a guy,who simply thinks that he is ABOVE all other players, and believes that he should be treated as such... last season,he was suspended for nine games for more trouble, last off-season... so,i have no pity for a person, who seems to be narcissistic and an egotist, who honestly believes that NFL talent will see him through any mess... folks,to play in the NFL is an extreme honor, and privilege, not a God given right, and, unfortunately,Aldon Smith is about to learn that fact the hardest way,by being suspended for an extended period of time,if not, banned for life(hopefully not)... note to Aldon:GROW UP,and realize what i am saying to you... the NFL is not your playground just to play football... it is an extreme honor and privilege to play in the NFL... if you want an example of talent wasted(so far),look at the career of Ray Rice... Aldon,if you want to blame anyone, just look in the mirror at yourself...

NFL news...

San Francisco 49ers released defensive end Aldon Smith after his arrest for (police report:hit and run DUI,and vandalism),in Santa Clara,California... Smith has said that arrest was not for DUI,but it was his third time being in trouble in last three seasons,so the 49ers fished and cut bait, with Smith,finally... the off-season,and training camp for the 49ers has really sucked... note:Packers play this year,in Santa Clara, against the 49ers,on October 4th(week four)...

questions to NFC North division teams...

two questions to NFC North division teams:how are you going to out-score Aaron Rodgers, and company, and to their team defenses, how are you going to keep him off the field, when he dissected your teams last season, with accurate passes??? my opinion:you are not going to do too often... GOOD LUCK!!!!

my day,today...

did a lot today... put money back to the bank, along with paying every "Bill"(my way of saying that i need to pay "Bill",every month),and got into an argument at the bank... they had a trainee doing her job,but when you have a trainee about 12 feet away from her mentor, her hands in her pockets, and back turned from her mentor, you are not doing a very good job of training someone... when i said something snarky to the trainee("thank you for helping me"),they jumped on me for saying that, and then i got mad as hell, because they said that i was rude... so what??? i was mad,and i said something that i should not have said,i admit(i did apologize for that),but let me say that both of us had a very short fuse... i paid every "Bill" that needed to be paid... what a day!!!!!

the reason that i have talked so much about my soulmate lately is that i miss her every day... honestly,it is not to change minds, but for understanding of the lady, and it is that simple, period,if you know what i mean???
