more stories "on the road"...

i have had people ask me if i would change anything that i did, while i was "on the road"... there are a few things that i would do differently, now, but at that time,i did things that i honestly had to do to survive, and yet, honestly, down deep, changing those things would change destiny, and history, and i would be a much different person now,if things were changed, even one day... three examples:living in Washington state with UNC,and me "not" coming back to find my soulmate,in Sacramento...  getting married to my soulmate,in Las Vegas,to my soulmate,in May,1993... not getting frustrated with my walking the streets in Orange County California,in early May 1994,and not setting my compass first to Las Vegas, then Denver, and finally going to NYC,for the first time in fifteen years,Memorial Day weekend, that year, and ending up on the phone,at a grocery store in Branford,Connecticut, literally gambling on the fact that my dear friend,Michele, would be home(she was flying for United Airlines;still does),and she picked up the phone... honestly,i had no idea,at the time,if she would be home... parts of the story i have told:getting to Connecticut is the part of the story that i will flesh out now... let me re-rack it to you:i got onto a Greyhound bus to Newark,in Greeley,Colorado... in New Jersey,i got onto a New Jersey Transit bus going north, actually got lost in Oradell,New Jersey, and was walking on the New Jersey Turnpike, somehow crossed the state border from New Jersey to New York,so someone dialed 911,and a Rockland County,New York deputy sheriff picked me up,took me to the sheriff's office... they talked to me,and gave me a county bus pass to White Plains,New York, then i took the subway to Grand Central Station, and found the Metro North line to New Haven, took the absolute last train out to New Haven, got there at 2:15 am,started walking north, found a Dunkin Donuts, ate most of six double chocolate donuts, and then after that ran after a city bus(it was Sunday),so when i got back to the New Haven Green,i finally found the bus line to Branford, stopped at a grocery store, behind the high school, and called her... i have told people of this trip many times, but the facts remain:how many things in this story have to go absolutely perfect for this story to be very memorable... Everything!!!! what are the odds of everything being absolutely perfect??? the odds would be so great that Las Vegas would post then at 1,000,000,000 to 1,or even more... we spent two memorable days together(i still smile about those days),until she had to fly out of Newark... the fact is that if things had changed even one day,to this day,i would not be the same person,period...
