commentary,and NFL history...

Johnny Unitas holds record, for throwing a touchdown pass,in 47 straight games, and when Unitas set record,he actually had no idea that he had thrown touchdown passes,in that many consecutive games... to him,he was just playing football... the closest anyone has come since then is in mid-30's,in number of games...

Don Hutson still has the fourth most points,in a season,with 138 points,in 1942(17 touchdowns,33 points after touchdowns,and 1 field goal),behind Paul Hornung's 176 points,in 1960,his 146 points,in 1961,and Mason Crosby's 141 points,in 2007...

Packers get fourth round draft pick, for Aaron Kampman......

police blotter update...

Suspended DE Johnny Jolly, who played for Packers,in 2009,had been arrested for drug possession,in Houston,again-intent to distribute-if amounts found results in a felony charge-which is the case... my opinion:what an idiot, period!!!!!!!!! chances of being reinstated in NFL... NOT A CHANCE IN HELL!!!!!! at least,Packers should release him,and i guarantee he will never play for them, again, after this... in fact,he may end up in prison stripes... he was under court supervision-in a pre-trial drug diversion program-when arrested...

injury update...

1963 Hall of Fame member Chuck Bednarik is resting comfortably, and the hospital is doing tests, but Bednarik truly wants out of the hospital, being ornery, like he was in his playing days, which is very good news, for him... he had shortness of breath, before he was admitted to hospital, and doctors say that the 85 year old's heart is as strong,as ever...

NFL history...

when NFL merged with AFL,in 1970,the league offered $3 million to any team to switch conferences, from the NFC to the AFC,to balance out the conferences... the Steelers,Browns, and the Colts, whose owner(Carroll Rosenbloom)would not pass up a payout like that... Rosenbloom, and the Irsay Family LATER switched team ownership, when Rosenbloom wanted the Rams, and Irsay took the Colts... Steelers and the Browns were joined at the hip, because neither team would switch conferences, without the other...

NFL news...

"Concrete Charlie" NFL Hall of Fame member Chuck Bednarik is hospitalized in serious condition... the Eagles' Hall of Fame member was the last man to play 60 minutes(both ways),in the NFL,and was member of Eagles' team who beat Packers,17-13,in the 1960 NFL Championship game, the only playoff loss of Vince Lombardi's coaching career... he got his legendary nickname,by being a concrete salesman,in the offseason, and he could hit like concrete... ask Frank Gifford... there is a great picture of Gifford laying on the turf, with Bednarik standing over him, during a New York Giants/Philadelphia Eagles game... he put him out for rest of that season... hope and pray he recovers!!!!

lockout,or not...

this is very strange to talk about:the owners have locked out the players, basically, and both sides are not talking,at all... there is an injunction hearing the first week of April,to force owners to lift lockout, which,in my opinion,is a long shot... the key date for season to start on time is around July 15th,but there is a big problem:money... it all comes down to the almighty greenback, and how to divide the nine billion dollar pie, between owners, and the players... there is a class action lawsuit filed by eight NFL players pending, and the owners want a billion dollars' profit off the top,and an eighteen game season, which the players oppose,on simple grounds,of player fatigue... the players want a fund set up for retired players, and i do not mean players who have retired recently... i mean the old-time players, circa 1980,and before, who honestly have a measly pension, from the NFL,or no pension,at all... the players want a medical study done on head injuries, because there have been quite a few players with dementia, and other brain ailments, who have died recently... all that will be resolved, but all free agents can not be signed,at all, including all draft picks, from this year's upcoming NFL draft, until there is a collective bargaining agreement is in place... i really expect it to be resolved,by late August/early September, which means a shorter season this year, like in 1987... i do not honestly believe that both players, and owners want to go the way of the NHL,in 2005,when the NHL became the only professional league,to scrap a season... they would lose the honest goodwill of the fans,if they did that route... remember the 57 day NFL strike,in 1987,where scabs were used to play NFL football... it stunk, and there was a movie made about that strike, called,"The Replacements",with Keanu Reeves, and Gene Hackman,in which the Washington replacements beat the Dallas team,in which most of Dallas' stars crossed the picket line... actually,in 1987,Washington Redskins' players refused to cross picket line,en masse,so the scabs,in Redskins' gear, did beat Dallas, and Dallas had most of their starters,in the game... one of the Dallas Cowboys lowest points,in their storied history,i might add... by the way,who won the Super Bowl that year? the Washington Redskins, who actually worked out,as a team, without coaches... Joe Theismann gathered the team together on a high school football field to work out together, many times, during that strike... who actually knows what will happen this year? neither side wants to scrap the season,so i expect them to get it resolved, but honestly who knows...

Packers' history...

when Don Hutson retired in 1945,he held 18 NFL records, including an amazing total of 99 touchdowns scored,a record that stood for 44 years... talk about Jerry Rice,in 1935,he was the best receiver in the NFL,leading the NFL,in catches, and touchdowns, eight of those years, four straight years, and he did it twice, which is amazing, even in 1935 to 1945... in 1942,in a eleven game season,he scored 17 touchdowns, and had 74 catches, for 1,211 yards... Don Hutson had four career 200 yard receiving games, which up to last year,it was still second in the NFL record books, and he did it,from 1935-1945... what a real stud!!!!!!
