analysis of game...

best defensive effort,by Packers, all year, but both offenses stunk up the place, especially the Jets, who had three turnovers(two interceptions, and a fumble),and five punts... the Packers had eight punts, and did not convert a third down, until third quarter, but did not turn football over to the Jets, all day, which was the key to the game... giving up nine points means a win,90+%,of the time, but the Jets really stunk up their home, but the Packers were hitting, and scratching for football, all day... in fact, the two interceptions,by the Packers were actually the Packers fighting for football, and ripping football out of the Jets' receivers' hands,on ground,or going to ground... the Jets used their three timeouts early in second half, and lost both challenges,so they could not stop the clock... it was 3-0,late in fourth quarter, when Packers kicked two field goals,to seal an ugly win... game balls to the defense, today,no doubt!!!!!!!!!

Packers' game score...

PACKERS 9 JETS 0... UGLY GAME... great defense, but offense did very little... first road shutout, since 1991,against Tampa Bay(then a division game)... more analysis tonight... a half-game lead, over the Bears, who had their bye week, and next play Dallas, who lost to Jacksonville,35-17,in Dallas, and dropped to 1-6... Packers play at Lambeau Field, against Dallas, next week... they are 5-3,at midpoint of season...

commentary...

every pundit thinks Jets will beat Packers,Sunday... honestly,i do not think so,because the Packers have played so many close games, and have fought all season to get healthy, and yet, they are tied with the Bears for division lead, and their chance to take division lead, since the Bears are on their bye, this week, and they will fight this whole season... they may lose to the Jets, but it will be a dogfight, because they have talent to win,but they have to finish game better, and keep defense off field,as much as possible...

Friday, October 29, 2010

commentary...

in my opinion,it will be a very close game,Sunday... the team that makes most mistakes, and i do not mean penalties,or turnovers,i mean, the little things that win football games, will lose,Sunday... i mean like the critical facemask penalty that gave Vikings,1st down, and 30 yards,to go with less than 1:30 left,on clock... that was ball-breaker,for Vikings, last Sunday...

pre-game analysis...

Offensively, the Packers and Jets are very high-powered,and similar, but the Jets do have a better running game, than the Packers,on paper, with LaDainian Tomlinson running the ball, averaging 5.3 yards per carry, and in 2006,ran for 28 touchdowns, for San Diego(then NFL record)... their passing attack does have some dangerous receivers, like the Packers, and both starting quarterbacks, are young in age,and starting in NFL(Mark Sanchez, for the Jets, years of starting in NFL-second year(USC grad),and Aaron Rodgers-3rd year(California grad))... they balance each other out, with Rodgers having the stronger arm to throw passes, but they both come out of college programs that threw the football a lot... defensively, the Jets,in their defensive backfield, have one of the best cornerbacks-safeties,in NFL,in Darrelle Revis... they,in the NFL,call him,"Revis Island",because he covers the best receiver on other team, like a blanket, and very few quarterbacks throw over to his side of the field, because he is very fast, quick, and has very good hands, and if they do,he can take it back to the house... you may think that i am a big fan,i am,but he can be beat long-distance,not often, but he can be beat... defensively, the Packers are very banged-up,on defensive line, but somehow is very good,at stopping the run, keeping Adrian Peterson(a better running back than Tomlinson,in my opinion)to a quiet 131 yards, last game, and if Al Harris, and Atari Bigby, play in defensive backfield,it will be a fascinating chess match,to watch, because both teams have great defensive backs in game,at that point... the edge to field goal kicking goes to the Packers, but special teams, overall goes to the Jets... it may come down to a field goal,at the end,or who has football last,on Sunday, like it did, against Minnesota... if it does, honestly,it may be a toss-up... Surprised?

Packers' history...

Donald Driver holds record for consecutive games, with a catch,at 133 games(139,including playoffs)... the streak ended, against the Vikings, because of injuries, and lack of time on field....

analysis of game,part 2...

now for the Packers' game plan, and execution:Aaron Rodgers passed for 295 yards,on 21,of 34,passing,and had a very good first half... it was a shootout,in first half, with both teams exchanging touchdowns, and Minnesota did lead,17-14,but Green Bay,and their defense, shut down Minnesota, and their long passing attack went into hibernation, with very few big plays, and when they did, they basically shot themselves in foot,by allowing Saint Brett to be hassled into mistakes,by gunslinging ball around Lambeau Field,or penalties, and defense hitting him into crucial mistakes(three second half interceptions),and hurting his ankle,in lineman falling on ankle,on a tackle... defense had only one sack, and three times, when he did get hit,he threw interceptions,or threw out of bounds,at critical times, like when he threw out of bounds,at end of game... Rodgers did his best work,in first half, and it turned into who would make, either, the big play,or the big mistake... Green Bay did not fumble, and only threw two interceptions, that did very little damage, giving Vikings a long field, both times, and only once they have a short field(over, into Green Bay territory,to start drive, and that was in first half),and that was because of special teams snafu, but basically special teams was adequate... Minnesota could not go the distance,as many times,as they wanted, and the one time they went long distance,a facemask personal foul did them in,at the critical time, with a 1st down, and 30,at Packers' 35 yard line, and Saint Brett ran out of miracles, this time... note of NFL history:the interception return for touchdown,by the Packers, was the ninth such return, today, and most in one day,in NFL history...

analysis of game...

Packers beat Saint Brett, and Vikings,28-24... could say that Saint Brett had a bad day,and almost made up for Vikings,by throwing a touchdown in last minute, but that is not true... last year,Saint Brett threw a similar pass against the San Francisco 49'ers,and won,in last second, but this year Minnesota is not the same team,as last year... Aaron Rodgers did play a good game,at quarterback, for the Packers, and the defense came up with key plays at critical times, including back-to-back interceptions,on consecutive drives that turned game in favor of the Packers, including an interception return that provided the game-winning points that was run back for a touchdown... Aaron Rodgers did have two interceptions, but one was for a touchback, and the other one was a botched screen pass, and did absolutely no damage to the Packers, early in the game... Saint Brett did more damage to Vikings,by his gunslinging ways, and was hounded by the pass rush of the Packers;was sacked only once, but was hit and knocked down a number of times... in fact,he hurt his ankle, again,on one pass rush, when a pass rusher, fell on his ankle, while tackling him... he was not the same after that... Aaron Rodgers played within himself, and did very little damage to team,on offense, and defense did not give up big play, and was much better,on 3rd down, and the only players, for the Vikings, who played like all-pros,was Adrian Peterson,Visanthe Shiancoe, and Percy Harvin, and they played very well, but Saint Brett had a 50.4 passer rating, not good, even for a semi-pro player, but for a Hall of Fame caliber player, like Saint Brett,it stunk up the place... Randy Moss did catch a touchdown pass, but it was a four yard pass, and his longest pass catch was thirteen yards... Harvin did have a 37 yard pass catch, but only had 65 yards overall... most of his damage was on special teams, but Packers shut him down at critical times... Peterson had 131 yards on the ground, but was contained at the most critical times of game,so his yards were the quiet type of yardage, and did not make a big play against Packers' defense... for example, you can run for 131 yards, and seem like you were contained,by defense... now for last Vikings' drive, they did have it,1st and 10,on Packers' 15 yard line, but had false start, for five yards, and offensive facemask penalty, against right side of offensive line, when player grabbed Clay Matthews' facemask(a personal foul-15 yards),to make it 1st and 30,on Packers' 35 yard line, when receiver did not come down with both feet inbounds,so it was not a touchdown,on a great pass from Saint Brett, but unlike last year,it was an incomplete pass,so Saint Brett tried to do a miracle, but threw it out of the end zone on 3rd down, and overthrew Randy Moss,on 4th down, and you should have heard the booing that Saint Brett received from the fans before, and after, the game... it warmed my heart to hear the boos....

PACKERS 28 VIKINGS 24... analysis tomorrow...

Packers' news...

commentary...

game of the year,so far, tomorrow, for Packers... the loser of game is in trouble in NFC North division, falling two games behind in loss column, behind Chicago Bears,so it will be a war in Green Bay,between two teams, who simply do not like each other, and i think Minnesota may think that they are a superior team, but right now,who has a losing record??? Minnesota!! i hope we bury Saint in Lambeau Field, making his miserable,in Packers' win,but it will be war,in Green Bay... note of fact,in 12 games, decided by 6 points,or less,as starter,Aaron Rodgers has only won once(against Detroit, this year),so he may be toast,or looking at cup,as half full,he may be due a win... best team wins,Sunday night... game score, after game late Sunday, and analysis of game, will be early Monday morning...

commentary...

i expect three of the four starters, being talked about as key players on defense,(Al Harris,Atari Bigby, and Clay Matthews)to play against Vikings Sunday night... how much is the question of the day? Mark Tauscher should play on offensive line, but is having trouble with shoulder harness, but all are questionable on injury report, but all four want to play, and i expect them to play,if i know them as players, which i believe that i do,as a fan,and an analyst,of this Packers' team...

Friday, October 22, 2010

commentary...

if Green Bay is to win Sunday night, the offensive line has to improve, from last year... Packers gave up fourteen sacks to the Vikings last year to zero sacks given up by Minnesota... that was main reason Green Bay lost both games,30-23,and 38-26,to the Vikings, last year... you give Saint Brett no pressure from the defense, you will pay,and pay big-time... he will pick you apart... the Packers' will have Clay Matthews back from a hamstring injury(he,of the league leading nine sacks),and possibly,Al Harris, and Atari Bigby in defensive backfield,so Packers should be back to full strength,on Sunday,on defense... Mark Tauscher, possibly, will play on offensive line,Sunday night,too...

Thursday, October 21, 2010

commentary...

the game between Green Bay,and Minnesota is vital to both teams, because if the Bears win Sunday, they will be 5-2,going into their bye week, and two games up in loss column,on the loser of the game,Sunday night... can Vikings keep Saint Brett, upright,on two feet, because their offensive line has been truly offensive, most of the year? can Randy Moss be the difference,in the passing game, for the Vikings? can Packers pressure Saint Brett, into mistakes, and can they "bury" him into Lambeau Field turf, and make him into permanent statue of pain,by sacking him a few times... can Packers' defense shut down the running game, and play their best game of year,by forcing fumbles, and intercepting passes, all over the field? can Vikings' defense harass Aaron Rodgers into the same mistakes? can Vikings defense shut down Donald Driver, and Greg Jennings,as they roam Lambeau Field... both teams have the same dilemma:can they score in fourth quarter to give either team an edge to win game? Green Bay has more talent than Minnesota overall, but it may come down to last two minutes, and to see who has the football last, and can Saint Brett,or Aaron make the fewest mistakes? answers Sunday night,in Lambeau Field... personally,i give the Packers a slight edge, but honestly,it would not surprise me to see a shootout,or even, see one team blow out the other team, but both teams do not like each other,at all,so it will probably be a tight game, with someone making a big play to turn the tide,of the game...

NFL news...

Saint Brett, and Vikings,at Green Bay Packers, was moved to Sunday Night Football... guess the NFL wants primetime ratings, for Sunday Night Football.... still Packers will win,at home...

commentary...

well, folks, this is Vikings' week,in Green Bay... at 3-3,Packers are smarting, and pissed off, with two consecutive overtime losses, and three losses,in last four weeks,by three points, apiece, and an offense who can not seem to finish off a team,in fourth quarter/overtime,being outscored by about 25-31 points,by other team,in fourth quarter/overtime... injuries have depleted team, with seven major starters, nursing injuries,or out of starting lineup, but team has not given up,on winning... all three losses have either happened,in last two minutes,or on last play of game, with field goals,in fourth quarter,or overtime... with Saint Brett, and Randy, coming to Lambeau Field this Sunday, this Vikings' team is not the same team,as they were last year, still dangerous, but not the same... Saint Brett has been really hammered,by other teams' defensive line, and an offensive line, that has been truly offensive,at times, and is really beat up,physically... the only Vikings' player having an all-pro season,is Adrian Peterson, who is one of the best running backs in NFL,no doubt, but even at Oklahoma, was known,as a fumbler, because he ran a little upright, exposing the ball to vicious hits, with helmets,or being stripped of ball,by random hands,at critical times,in games... Vikings had six turnovers against the Saints,in last year's NFC championship, dropping the ball on the carpet,or being intercepted, rushing Saint Brett into mistakes... this year's team,is 2-3,and barely beat the pathetic Dallas Cowboys,in Minnesota, last week... even though Randy Moss had a long touchdown pass last week, most of the day,he was shut down by a defense that got torched(Cowboys'),by other teams this season... if Tony Romo had been close to last year, the Vikings would have been cooked in their Norwegian helmets,again... Saint Brett has been rushed, and beaten up,by linemen, who have put Saint Brett,on his butt, throughout the season,at times, and also have been chased all over the field, and sacked... his offensive line has been invisible in protecting Saint Brett,at times... Saint Brett is one of the greatest quarterbacks,in NFL history,no doubt, but has been just very average,in his play, this year... Vikings are very dangerous, but if Packers play their best game of year, the Vikings are cooked,in their Norwegian helmets, this week,in Lambeau Field.... unlike last year,Vikings do not have enough firepower to beat Packers,if Packers play their best game of year, but with seven starters injured,on offense,or defense,it will be interesting to see how Packers come out,and play, and if they can finish, with a flourish, they will beat Vikings, but it will be very fun,and interesting,to watch...

Packers' news...

Anthony Smith(in a trade with Jacksonville),Al Harris, and Atari Bigby(off physically unable to perform list)join Packers in practice this week...

Packers' game score,and commentary...

Packers fought like dogs, but lose to Dolphins,23-20,in overtime.... have been outscored in fourth quarter/overtime,by 31 points,so far this season, losing last two games,in overtime, but Bears lose,Lions also lose,so no change,in division,so that helps,overall... questionable call(illegal formation,on punt-man lined up over center, did not touch) gave Dolphins drive to lead,20-13... what made it questionable was that it was done by booth, with about 8 minutes to play, and flag was thrown by referee, about two minutes, after Green Bay had ball on nine yard line, after punt... you should have heard the boos for referees, from Lambeau crowd,72,000 throats.... honestly,Dolphins played well,so no real complaints, and Green Bay defense played tough, and well, but with the seven regular starters out with injuries, offense and defense,it was a tough-played game, but still have trouble stopping the other team,on 3rd down, which frustrates fans, and offense can not seem to put a long drive together,at critical times,to give defense rest, from their work, which wore down the defense, giving Dolphins hope and, ultimately, the win,in overtime...

Packers' news...

Packers play Dolphins,tomorrow... Miami has not won in Green Bay,since 1985,but they do not play each other, very often...

Packers' news...

Nick Barnett was placed on IR(injured reserve),effectively ending his season... he has wrist problems, and looks like surgery for the wrist, like Brian Urlacher,of the Chicago Bears had last season....

Packers' news...

Aaron Rodgers is expected to play Sunday... ESPN,and NFL.com reports.....

Thursday, October 14, 2010

Packers' news...

Aaron Rodgers does look like he is playing Sunday, against the Miami Dolphins... he has not passed every medical test needed to play this weekend, but has passed every medical test given to him,so far,and has taken every snap needed in practice, this week...

Packers' news...

Jermichael Finley will be out 8-10 weeks, and Packers are debating to put him on IR(injured reserve),which will put him on shelf, for year,or wait for him to heal, and keep him on roster...

Tuesday, October 12, 2010

Packers' news...

Jermichael Finley is out 3-6 weeks... team thought he was out for season,so that is good... Nick Barnett needs surgery, but should be back before season's end,Packers announced,today... Rodgers' concussion was caused when he tried a quarterback sneak,on 3rd down, when Packers were stopped on downs, when Packers were up,10-3,or 13-3... that was turning point in game, last Sunday...

Packers' history...

Bart Starr, and Brett Favre, both spent 16 years,as a Green Bay Packers' player, and Starr was head coach of the Packers,at one time...

Monday, October 11, 2010

commentary...

as an aside, for Packers' fans:Saint Brett, and the Vikings, lost to the New York Jets,29-20... now 1-3,and looking sad... for your info,Green Bay may have lost two games, but by only three points, each,to Chicago, and to Washington,in overtime, with Crosby missing a 53 yarder, with a second left in regulation, when he drilled the ball off the left goal post... rather be Green Bay,than Minnesota, right now....

Packers' news...

there are a lot of starters nursing injuries, including Aaron Rodgers,Clay Matthews, and Jermichael Finley... Rodgers will miss practice time, this week, because of a concussion suffered on offense's last play, when he got plowed under,by linebacker,as he threw interception... his playing status will be determined, but honestly it looked like, from replay, his head did not get hit,on play... his shoulder and back was hit and driven into turf... i believe the concussion came from a whiplash action of head... Jermichael Finley seems to be the worst injury, but you never know... Clay Matthews, who leads NFL,in sacks, with 9,pulled hamstring early in second half, and is questionable for game....

Sunday, October 10, 2010

Packers' game score...

Packers lose,16-13,in overtime;scored only 3 points,in second half/overtime... defense played well in first half, and actually played well, all day, chasing McNabb all over field... Aaron Rodgers was pathetic,in second half of game, could not move football;gave defense too much time on field,in second half, was pathetic on 3rd down(2-13,15%),and Rodgers threw a interception,to set up winning field goal,in overtime, but to tell the truth,Rodgers got plowed under by linebacker,as he threw pass, and the Redskins player(LaRon Landry)made a one hell of a play on football to catch it... Packers got stopped on downs,at the Redskins' 1,earlier in game, and Mason Crosby missed two field goals, one with one second left,in regulation that drilled the left goal post, from 53 yards out... offense sucked in second half, and that is what lost the game, for the Packers... Clay Matthews, who had three sacks of McNabb,in first half, and early in second half, went out with injury,to neuter pass rush,at critical time,in game... defense a strong eight, offense non-grata,in this game...

Saturday, October 9, 2010

Packers' news...

Nick Barnett and Brandon Chillar are out of the Redskins game... eight players sat out Wednesday's practice,to nurse injuries, most are expected to play tomorrow...

NFL news...

Charles Woodson has been named NFC Defensive Player of the Week, for his work, against Detroit... it is the third time that a Packers' player has been awarded a "player of the week,or month" award,by the NFL,this year...

Thursday, October 7, 2010

Packers' news...

Nick Barnett is out for season, with a similar injury to his wrist that Bears LB Brian Urlacher(dislocated wrist)had last year...

Wednesday, October 6, 2010

commentary...

Randy Moss traded to Minnesota, from New England,today... if,honestly,he was the same wide receiver that he was five,or so,years ago,he would be better fit,the second time around, with Minnesota, but Favre still has problems, with the offensive line, not enough receivers, and, now with limited mobility, with a bad ankle, will he have time to get passes to Moss? i honestly do not think that it shifts power in division... i may be wrong, but to automatically think that Minnesota has the inside track to division crown,is wrong... even with Moss, they have not shown spark,so far,and to tell the truth, the only Viking worth a piss, has been Adrian Peterson, but besides him,the Viking offense has sucked, big time, and Favre has shown his age, finally(two touchdowns, five interceptions),so far... Minnesota is all in,for the Super Bowl,or bust, but the Packers, and Saints are the class of the NFC... the Packers are the highest scoring team,in NFC,but has played inconsistently(not on all cylinders)on offense,at times in games, like the 18 penalties,in Chicago, and the lack of yardage on offense, against Detroit, but honestly, they won in pure guts, and grit, against Detroit, when they literally ground out the last 6:32 of game, running the ball... it was not pretty, but a win is a win,and sometimes a win like this, shows the fans, and the team, that they have what it takes to be a very good team,in the NFL,this year...

trivia answer,part 2...

Chris Jacke did it twice:against LA Raiders, on November 11,1990(5 field goals),and against SF 49ers,on October 14,1996(5 field goals)
Ryan Longwell,did it,against Arizona Cardinals,in Arizona,September 24,2000(5 field goals)...

commentary...

next game is at Washington... if Packers do not play better than they did Sunday, they are in big trouble, but honestly,i can hear(in mind's eye)what Mike Mc Carthy is telling the players... how they stunk up Lambeau,in second half, and i would not be surprised if he does not have the NFL North standings up in locker room,or has Packers,at 2-2,not 3-1,like they are,to make the biggest point that they got lucky,in beating Detroit... they should be fired up,in Washington,to play the Redskins... if not,McNabb will tear them up,period, but the Packers have too much pride, and talent,to lose to the Washington Redskins....

Sunday, October 3, 2010

Packers' news...

BEARS LOSE 17-3,TO GIANTS... PACKERS TIED FOR DIVISION LEAD,AT 3-1...

commentary...

Packers may be 3-1,but they have played an inconsistent game... special teams sucked... when defense came up with winning score, you know you are in trouble(a forty eight yard interception return,by Charles Woodson, for touchdown)... even Mike McCarthy, gets a drubbing in my eyes... pass defense was adequate, but when Lions were 10 for 17,on 3rd down,i give an adequate rating, because of winning points on defense, but honestly,it was poor,overall... Rodgers was very good in first half, and Woodson had an interception return for touchdown, but had a pass interference call against him,so he was not perfect... two fumbles on kickoffs,and/or punts, and punting was horrible... the running game saved their bacon, with grinding out the last 6:32,of the clock... i give the Packers a three, but a win is a win...

Packers' game score...

Packers grind out on the ground last 6:32 of game, beat Lions,28-26... Detroit Lions have not won in the State of Wisconsin, since 1991(Packers used to play a few home games,in Milwaukee),have lost 20 straight games to the Packers,at home, including a playoff win,in 1994... they have lost ten straight games to Packers(the longest streak,in over 50 years, going back to eleven game winning streak,by the Lions, from 1949-1954) the Packers own a 19 game regular season winning streak,at home, over the Lions, which is the longest current streak,by one team, over another team,in the NFL,not including the playoff win,in 1994...

Saturday, October 2, 2010

Packers' history...

in a 5-10-1 season,on September 7,1980,Packers beat Chicago 12-6,in overtime,on one of strangest plays in NFL history, when Chicago blocked a would be winning field goal by Chester Marcol, when football bounced off the helmet of Chicago's Alan Page, but ball bounced into Marcol's arms on the left side of the formation, and Marcol jogged into the end zone for the winning touchdown... Page played mostly for the Vikings,as one of the "Purple People Eaters" defensive line,in the late 60's to mid 70's...

Friday, October 1, 2010

opinion...

my favorite Packers' quarterback is Bart Starr, winning nine of ten playoff games, and winning five NFL titles(in six attempts),and the first two Super Bowls, and being Super Bowl MVP,in both Super Bowls, and was the true leader of those Packers' teams, along being the only one who could challenge Lombardi,on play calls, and in games... Brett Favre is third on that list, behind Arnie Herber, who is a class of 1966 Hall of Fame member, who played 11 seasons with Green Bay... in 1935,he,and Don Hutson became the first great quarterback-receiver tandem, winning the 1936 NFL title,in the process... he played,as a rookie, behind Joseph "Red" Dunn,in NFL title years,of 1930,and 1931(the last two NFL titles, from 1929-1931)... the Packers are the only team to win three straight NFL titles, and they did it twice(1929-1931,and 1965-1967)...

Packers' history...

the 1929 Green Bay Packers were first NFL team to finish season, without a loss, being 12-0-1,outscoring the league,192-6...
