a trip to really remember...

this being the last day of May,let me tell you a story about a trip that started on May 6th,1994,in Orange County California... i got a bus ticket to Las Vegas, because i was very pissed, and simply worn out of walking the streets of the county, and things were not going too well,at that time... after a few days in Sin City,i did not want to go back to OC(i was very tired, mentally),so i hitchhiked up I-15,to I-70,and then to Denver, and Brighton,Colorado... in town,i stopped for directions to I-76 at a local fire station,i was told it was twenty miles down the road(i goofed on the distance, big time),and as i was turning to leave, the fire fighter asked me where i was going,i said,"New York",he offered me a lift over to Greyhound, and said,"i will buy you a ticket to New York"... to tell you the absolute truth,i was stunned, and simply floored, because i only asked for directions, and i could not believe what was going to happen... it is odd that way, some people are just that way,and miracles do happen, because i did not ask for anything, and i was off to New York, within a couple of hours... still,to this day,i can not believe what happened that day... after a memorable couple days,i got to Newark,New Jersey, got on a city bus in New Jersey, then got promptly lost, and walking on an expressway,in Bergen County... somehow,i crossed into New York State, because someone called 911,and i was picked up by the Rockland County(New York)Sheriff's Department, transported to a substation, and after talking to them,i was given a city bus ticket to White Plains,New York(over the Tappan Zee bridge)... that night,i arrived at Grand Central Station, and made it to New Haven(that part of the trip has been spoken of),so on the trip home from New York,i get mugged and robbed in White Plains,so i am behind the proverbial eight ball, before getting on the road the next day... after reporting the mugging to the police,i stayed in a shelter in White Plains overnight, then hit the highway out of WP,got into Pennsylvania(actually walked out of Orange County,New York, into Pennsylvania),and i hitchhiked to Scranton,Pennsylvania, and then to Akron,Ohio, after six days of bizarre hell,of puddle jumping rides through Ohio, and Pennsylvania... after three days of rest in Akron,it was time to get on the road,so i asked for directions to a Catholic church(the shelter gave me the wrong directions(and after a hot two mile plus walk, and then an argument with the people at the shelter(they told me that they had told me the right directions),they tossed me out,so as i was walking out of the shelter, someone told me the right directions... i knew after a miserable trip so far, that i needed a Greyhound bus to Anaheim, and the priest told me to verify the mugging in White Plains that i suffered,to him,so he sent me over to the Akron Police Department,to get paperwork on the mugging... the priest gave me a bus ticket, and then as i was walking to the bus station,i decided to stop at a food bank to get some food for the trip... well, the people at the food bank actually passed the hat and gave me twenty nine dollars, and a ride over to the bus station... i had to stop a few times on the trip home, because of severe back pain, including a memorable moment in Albuquerque, when i got tossed off the bus, because i sat down on the bus seat, and literally had a searing pain in my back, and leg(i actually do not blame Greyhound for tossing me off bus, because i was in extreme pain)... i had to wait twelve hours in the bus station for the next bus to Anaheim, and after over a month,on the road,i made it back to Anaheim...  what a trip!!!!!!!

correction...

i corrected the trivia about what cities won the Stanley Cup,and Lombardi Trophy,in the Super Bowl era... i added Chicago to the list:Bears/Blackhawks... i admit i had brain freeze... i forgot about the 1985 Chicago Bears, who demolished the New England Patriots,46-10,in their one win(Super Bowl XX)... note:i do not include the Patriots,on that list, because they are not based in Boston, unlike the Devils/Giants,and Jets, who are based in New Jersey...

NFL trivia...

who holds the NFL season record for punting average??? this one is not easy to think of... hint:he may have been the best quarterback in one team's history... answer:Slingin' Sammy Baugh,of the Washington Redskins, had a punting average,in 1940,of 51.4 yards/per punt...

trivia...

in memory of Tampa Bay Buccaneers' owner Malcolm Glazer, who died yesterday:here is a trivia question that is unique:name the cities/areas that have won both the Stanley Cup,and the Lombardi Trophy,in the Super Bowl era... in terms of areas,i mean the New Jersey Devils/New York Giants, and New York Jets(their stadium/arena used to be across the parking lot from each other)... now for the cities:Tampa Bay(Buccaneers/Lightning),Dallas(Cowboys,Stars),and Denver(Broncos/Colorado Avalanche)... how did i forget the Chicago Bears/Chicago Blackhawks???

crime news,and comments...

sorry, folks, but i do not mention that Aaron Hernandez played for the New England Patriots, because he is a real thug, and scumbag,period... for this moment on,that will the rule in the case of Hernandez, any time i mention him... well, folks,he was arraigned in the 2012 double murder of Safiro Furtado, and Daniel de Abreu,today... may the families involved get justice, including the family of Odin Lloyd, for whose murder Hernandez was arraigned in 2013!!!!!! my opinion:he is a real scumbag,period...

commentary...

every pundit are downplaying the Packers' chances to win the NFC North Division crown, and hyping the Chicago Bears, and the Detroit Lions... both the Bears and Lions will be better,no doubt, and i accept that, but they forget about the Packers, who won the NFC North Division, for the third straight time, with a team that honestly looks like a walking M*A*S*H* unit most of the year, last season... Chicago has one major problem in the defensive backfield-age... they are a little long in the tooth, and if you can not stop long passes,by Matthew Stafford, and the best quarterback in the NFL(my opinion, and you can simply bite it,if he is not the best, when healthy)Aaron Rodgers, your team is in deep trouble,period... the Lions have not improved their weakness, also their defensive backfield, because rookies, for the most part,is in for a tough time,if they did not start early in the season, next year... the weakness for the Packers the last few years, has been the entire defense(most of the defensive starters have been injured at critical times, the last few years),but that can be a real plus, because players who normally do not play,or should not have played have taken up the slack, and have gained a lot of valuable experience on the field... now the Packers are basically healthy for the first time in years,on both sides of the football, and that can be dangerous for teams, who think the Packers will be a pushover this season... i know that 8-7-1 will not win the division, but the Packers have a legitimate shot to win the NFC North Division, just as the Bears, and Lions do,and pundits do not think that the NFC North Division is going to be that tough this season... do not tell that to the Bears,Lions,Vikings,or especially the Packers, because they do not like, but respect each other, when it comes to playing football, and every game will be simple in context:all out brutal war between the four teams that REALLY want to stomp the snot out of each other, when they play each other, period!!!!!!!

a miracle 20 years ago,today...

where was i,20 years ago, today??? i was in Branford,Connecticut, visiting a friend, after having a cross country trip to remember, including being in Grand Central Station, hearing,"Let's Go Rangers",echoing throughout the building,as i walked through it(it was during the New York Rangers' successful trip to the Stanley Cup,after 54 years of not winning the Stanley Cup(no more "1940" chants),and they were playing the New Jersey Devils,at that time... i remember getting on the last train to New Haven that night(at 2:10 am,walking six miles to Hamden, and being cursed at,by a newspaper man,for asking for the time(i estimated the time was about 3:30 am)... i caught a bus back to New Haven, after devouring six Double Chocolate donuts,at Dunkin Donuts(actually got very lucky,it was a Sunday)... actually,it was a huge gamble that my friend was going to be home, because she flew for United Airlines... i hit the "jackpot",when she answered the phone, and i asked her to tell me where i was... she could not tell me,and i told her that i was in Branford, and she said to wait there at a supermarket, which was basically a half mile from her apartment... i started on my trip in early May,hitchhiked halfway across the country, and then caught a Greyhound bus, with help,in Colorado, got to New York City,on a Saturday night, traveled to New Haven, and Branford overnight, and my friend could have been anywhere in the country, but that weekend, was at home, and i just happen to show up the day she got home from a trip... odds of that happening:about 25,000 to 1!!!!!! what a memory...

a day at Lambeau Field...

a gorgeous day in Green Bay... would love to watch a game between Chicago Bears, and the Packers, and the Packers beating the Bears quite badly... what a dream!!!!

a class act by the Seahawks...

the Seattle Seahawks waived 2014 NFL Draft sixth round draft pick Garrett Scott... that seems to be a regular football transaction,in the sports page, but it is not,not by a long shot... during the team physical, the doctors found that Scott had a rare heart condition,so he failed the team physical, but the Seahawks signed him to a rookie contract then waived him, meaning he would receive his slotted signing bonus($90,000-$105,000),before getting waived... Scott played college at Marshall, earning himself second team All Conference USA honors, last season... i may not like the Seahawks, but it was a total class act by them...

correction...

Khyri Thornton is a NFL Draft pick for the Packers, this season, but i misspelled his first name,up to this day,but that will change... sorry,Khyri...

a day at Lambeau Field...

it is a stunningly beautiful day,in Green Bay,and it would be a great day to sit in the bowl of Lambeau Field, and watch the Packers beat the Chicago Bears quite badly... GO PACK GO!!!!!!

NFL news,and comments...

San Francisco 49ers' linebacker Aldon Smith pleaded "no contest" to three felony counts of possession of an assault weapon, and two misdemeanor counts of DUI... expect the NFL,to suspend him for some time, this season, after everything legally is settled... Smith is facing a sentence,of a max of four and a half years... pleading "no contest"may lessen that sentence... my opinion:young players in professional sports, and movie stars, think that they are above the law,or arrogant enough to think that they will receive a slap on the wrist... unfortunately,Smith was absolutely stupid in what he did...

Packers' news,and very,very easy trivia...

Packers signed 2014 NFL Draft third round pick Khyrl Thornton from Southern Mississippi... note:what Packers' legend was drafted by Atlanta, out of Southern Mississippi? hint:297 consecutive starts at quarterback(321,includes playoffs)... if you do not get this one,you have not watched NFL football, since the early 1990's... answer:Brett Favre...

NFL news...

Minnesota has been selected to host Super Bowl LII(52),in their new stadium, opening in two years... NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell expects the playoff field to expand to seven teams,in each conference,in 2015...

Tuesday, May 20, 2014

a day at Lambeau Field...

dreaming of playing football... it is a gorgeous day at Lambeau Field,to play even flag football... only a dream, but what a dream...

correction...

Demetri Goodson was in a BCS bowl game, with the Baylor Bears, not the BCS National Championship game with the Bears, losing the 2014 Fiesta Bowl to University of Central Florida(UCF),52-42... i corrected the previous post...

Packers' news...

i will note who the Packers have signed... they have signed five,of nine 2014 NFL Draft picks,so far... Carl Bradford,Jared Abbrederis,Carl Linsley, and Demetri Goodson(the only NCAA player in history to play in the NCAA Basketball Tournament(with Gonzaga),and a BCS bowl game(with Baylor),and Jeff Janis, noted earlier on blog, have all signed contracts with the Packers...

Sunday, May 18, 2014

a true class act...

the New Orleans Saints signed Tulane safety Devon Walker... it is a dream realized for Walker, who was paralyzed from the neck down during his senior season,in 2012,when he collided with a teammate... a class act from the Saints,no doubt...

Saturday, May 17, 2014

commentary...

i do not know how to say this, but if you have seen video of the abandoned Pontiac Superdome, and the current condition of it,it absolutely made me very sad... to the city of Pontiac, and to the state of Michigan, you absolutely should be ashamed, because you have done it a real disservice, because, the roof has collapsed, and it looks like a real war zone, with scraps of roof fabric, and other things hanging down from the roof, and the field torn up... for a stadium who hosted the Detroit Lions, for twenty five years, along with Super Bowl XVI,and Wrestlemania III,when 93,173 people showed up to watch Hulk Hogan bodyslam(not the first time, but history, nonetheless)Andre the Giant... it is a black eye to the city of Pontiac, and the state of Michigan,no doubt... shame on you!!!!!!!

now a scumbag,always a scumbag... crime news...

Aaron Hernandez, who is in jail, because of his involvement in the shooting death of Odin Lloyd,in 2013,also has been indicted for the 2012 double homicide of Daniel Abreu, and Safiro Furtado, outside a nightclub,in Boston's South End... my opinion:ROT IN HADES,Aaron!!!!!!

commentary...

as a fan of the Detroit Red Wings, and a shareholder/owner of the Green Bay Packers, last season was painful, and awful to watch... both teams,on paper, were very good, but devastating injuries(like a severe back injury to team captain Henrik Zetterberg, and a broken clavicle to quarterback Aaron Rodgers)put both teams on a path of struggle throughout their respective seasons... the Red Wings used over half of their American Hockey League team's roster(eight,or nine rookies had their NHL debut, last season),and the Packers used not one,not two,not three, but four different quarterbacks,in the last half of their season, and their defensive stud(Clay Matthews)broke his thumb, not once, but twice(had surgery both times)and missed five games, and in one game was ineffective with a club cast on his hand... the defense for the Packers was hampered with injuries in the defensive line, and their defensive backfield throughout their season... by many respects, the 40-10 Thanksgiving Day loss,to the Detroit Lions was the worst offensive(by a NFL team)showing, all season... the Lions scored thirty seven straight points, despite turning over the football four times, including an interception returned for a touchdown for the only touchdown scored by the Packers, that awful day... if it was not for a bomb in the final seconds, the Packers would not have gotten 100 yards offensively, all day... both teams struggled to make the playoffs... the Red Wings made the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs in their 81st game(of 82 games),and the Packers beat the Chicago Bears for their third straight NFC North division crown, with "4th and 8"(a 47 yard touchdown bomb from Rodgers,to Randall Cobb),with thirty six seconds left in the game,in Chicago,in a 33-28 Packers' win... after missing seven games with that pesky clavicle,Rodgers was rusty in the first half of that Bears' game, but found his rhythm in the second half, and simply refused to quit,period... the motto for both teams must have been,to quote WWE* superstar John Cena,"never give up",because both teams fought, scratched, and clawed to the best of their teams' abilities, all season... even though,i may have been disappointed in the endings,of their respective seasons, there is no fan any prouder in both teams!!!!!!! *copyright, and trademarked...

a day at Lambeau Field...

it is a beautiful day,as the sun comes over the bowl,of Lambeau Field;dreaming, and wishing,of sitting inside Lambeau Field, during a game in which the Packers beat the Chicago Bears quite badly... only to wish...

comments...

after the 2014 NFL Draft, the Packers were ranked sixth,in the NFL.com Power Rankings, which does not mean much this early, but,at least, pundits point out that the Packers should be better this upcoming season...

not your usual Packers' draft class...

the Packers drafted an all Big Ten(two time)wide receiver,in Jared Abberderis,an all Big Ten center in Corey Linsley,a safety from Alabama in Ha Ha Clinton-Dix,that played on one,or two national championship teams,at Alabama, two linebackers, from Southern Mississippi, and Arizona State,in Khryl Thornton, and Carl Bradford,a wide receiver from California, who have very good hands,in Richard Rodgers,a cornerback from Baylor,in Demetri Goodson, who just started for Gonzaga, for two years,on their very good basketball team, and whose brother,Mike, played running back for the Carolina Panthers,New York Jets, and the Oakland Raiders, and a tight end,in Davante Adams, from Fresno State, who had very good hands catching passes... they also drafted Jeff Janis,a 6'3"wide receiver, from Saginaw Valley State,an all MIAA selection, who may be that big target that quarterback Aaron Rodgers may enjoy throwing passes to,in a tight game,if you know what i mean...

Packers' 2014 NFL Draft picks...

second round:Davante Adams,wide receiver,Fresno State;third round:Khryl Thornton,defensive lineman;Southern Mississippi,and Richard Rodgers,tight end,California...

fans' dream comes true...

Packer fans petitioned general manager Ted Thompson to draft one player in the first round... sometimes, art of the petition imitates real life... the player the fans wanted in the petition was one Alabama safety... they wanted Ha Ha Clinton-Dix drafted by the Packers, and guess what, the fans got their wish... Clinton-Dix may not be the fastest, but folks,he will be a ball hawk, and hitter... a very good first round pick,period...

strange but true trivia...

what video game character was originally was known as Jumpman??? answer:Mario,as in the Mario Bros. franchise... the game came out in Japan first,as everything seems to,you know... recently,in a poll done by Guinness Book of World Records,13,000 readers voted Mario as most popular video game character,of all time...

a day at Lambeau Field, and commentary...

a beautiful sight to look at first thing in the morning??? Lambeau Field;tarp still on field, but still would sit in the stands, even now, dreaming about the Packers beating the Chicago Bears... do you believe that i have extra "hatred" for the Bears??? i have to admit that i do;it being the oldest rivalry, and in my opinion, the most "hated" pair of rivals,in the NFL... Packers do not like Bears, and Bears do not like Packers,no matter what the records may be,between the teams... they simply want to beat each other quite badly...

Pete,shut up,and go away...

he may be a Super Bowl-winning coach, and he respectfully deserves it,but i am very very tired of his arrogance about his bitterness of the NCAA sanctions that took down USC during his tainted tenure there... first of all, being a Trojan fan,and having a family member, who graduated from there,i am incredulous in thinking that Carroll is bitter about it,at all, because he has said that he did not know about the troubles at USC,while he was head coach... that is so not believable,in my opinion, that i want to vomit, over and over,in hearing about his bitterness... he weaseled out of town, and was a real snake, when he left the university right before the NCAA sanctions hit USC,and now he says that he is really bitter about the NCAA sanctions that has devastated USC,until now... to tell Trojan Nation that you are bitter over what happened to USC is total manure... if you were serious, and bitter about what happened at USC stop being a real weasel, and simply tell Trojan Nation that you left town, not because of the five year contract offered by the Seattle Seahawks, but because you knew that NCAA sanctions were coming USC's way,and you were too much of a real weasel to tell Trojan Nation the truth, and that you did not want to deal with the NCAA sanctions,as USC head coach... to me,that is the logical truth:that you knew, and that you took the money and ran as far as you could from what you let happen at USC,period, because you were head coach at that time... remember that,Pete,or are you someone who were deaf, dumb, and blind,as the cartoon of the three monkeys with their hands over their eyes, ears, and mouth???  to me,i respect you as head coach, but also to me,you are a person who has lied to Trojan Nation over the years, denying that you knew of the NCAA sanctions before you left USC,and to me,i will not forgive you for that, because you were part of Trojan Nation, and your USC legacy,is marked with cheating, payments, and no one really cared about the consequences of the scandal that you had to know about, and that is the simple truth,Pete!!!!!!

blog statement...

be back in a few days... had a sinus headache/migraine yesterday,so an one day delay on a much needed vacation...

commentary...

as of right now,the Packers are slated to pick 21st in the first round, but honestly teams do trade up,or down,in the first round... so,i suspect that the Packers will select at number 21,but who knows, but the three month(not joking-boring)pre-draft show is almost over... let us get back to football,finally... my opinion:moving the 2014 NFL Draft back a month, this year, was too long... next year,if they do not move it back to April,i will go on vacation the day after the Super Bowl, and be on vacation for three months(laughing),but it has not been too fun being a NFL football fan this off-season...

a very true story...

how did Packers' great Don Hutson became a Green Bay Packer??? he actually signed with both the Brooklyn Dodgers, and the Packers on the same day,but the mail were slower to Major League Baseball headquarters, then to NFL headquarters,by a single hour,so the postal mark decided the future for Hutson, who later became a Hall of Fame member, for the Packers... note:he holds the NFL record for most consecutive years leading the NFL in pass receiving yardage... he led the NFL in most yards received for eight straight years...
