commentary...

this is making me mad:the New Orleans Saints are appealing every suspension, levied by Commissioner Roger Goodell... general manager Mickey Loomis, and assistant coach joe Vitt, are appealing their eight game, and six game suspensions, respectively, and the Saints are appealing their $500,000 fine, and their loss of draft picks,in 2012,and 2013... honestly, they have to do it,but i am very sick of this circus, and my opinion is that the Saints are a very dirty defensive team, and i do not like them one bit... never will, because they went after Brett Favre,in 2009 NFC Championship game, and also went after the health of Aaron Rodgers, opening night last season,in Lambeau Field... one note,in the "bounty" report,is that someone outside the Saints' organization put a big "bounty" on Rodgers, before the opening week Thursday night game, last season... that is in the NFL report,on the "bounty" scandal...

injury update...

Packers' head coach Mike McCarthy gave health updates, during NFL owners' meeting,on Andrew Quarless,Derek Sherrod, and Alex Green... of the three players,Quarless, who torn an anterior cruciate ligament, against New York Giants,in week thirteen,is slowly progressing, and could miss a large chunk,of 2012 season... Sherrod, who broke both his fibula, and tibia, against Detroit,in week seventeen, looks good and should be ready for training camp,or a few days into training camp... Green, who torn his anterior cruciate ligament, against Minnesota,in week seven,"looks good",and also should be ready for the start of training camp...

an NFL owner's take...

i think that suspended New Orleans Saints' head coach Sean Payton should just take his lumps, and simply shut up... his arrogance over this "bounty" scandal has landed him in this mess, and not anybody else... not addressing the NFL owners, and apologizing, during the owners' meeting, when he was down there yapping to the media, irked more than one owner... as for the Saints, just shut up,and be quiet, because,as a Packers' shareholder(therefore,a NFL owner),i am embarrassed, simply by this blackening the NFL's eye,and am just tired of this circus,of he said/he said, and i have to admire Gregg Williams, for something:not appealing his indefinite suspension, from the NFL... he will probably coach in the NFL,after doing his penance, next season(up to Commissioner Goodell),and i wish him well... i do not like, and never will like, what happened, but the more that people like Payton talk about how wrong in the way that they were treated, the more that i simply can not stand their arrogance, and stupidity... simply go away, serve your time away from the game that i deeply love, and really learn, and understand what happened, and stop blaming everybody else, and simply look into the mirror, and see the person to blame,Mr. Payton...

grow up,pundits;cheap shots do not matter...

some pundits have expressed their opinions on why the Packers lost to the New York Giants, last playoff season, and have said that it was rust that doomed the Packers... as a Packers' shareholder,i have to stick up,and with head coach Mike McCarthy, who said,in an interview, that he would still rest Aaron Rodgers,in week 17,if needed... he rested Rodgers,in week 17,against Detroit... to the pundits,i admit that the Packers did not play well, against the Giants, but to criticize McCarthy is definitely wrong, because you people were not in the Packers' locker room, and the Packers did play their worst game, and you should give the Giants much credit, for the way that they played... to the pundits,i say grow up,PERIOD!!!!!! it was not our day to win game!!!!! next season,we will win our share of games,if we win Super Bowl XLVII,pundits will jump on the bandwagon, saying that we are the team to beat... with Aaron Rodgers,as Packers' quarterback,(personal opinion)i would go into battle,anytime...

correction...

the aforementioned game between the Green Bay Packers, and the independent Salinas Iceberg Packers, was January,10,1937,not 1936... what threw me off was that it was under the listing,"1936"... the Packers were on a five game tour,of western United States, after winning the 1936 NFL Championship, going 4-0-1,on the trip...

unique Packers' trivia...

January 10,1936:Green Bay Packers 42,Salinas Iceberg Packers 7,at Kesar Stadium,San Francisco,in front of 2,000 people... believe it,or not,it is true...

Packers' news...

Packers' news...

Green Bay Packers get two supplemental draft picks,in 4th round, and two more supplemental draft picks,in the 7th round,or compensation, for trades, according to the NFL,in 2012 NFL draft...

funny stat line...

this is a funny, but true NBA story... too funny not to note here:before the San Antonio Spurs' 93-76 win, over the Philadelphia 76ers,Sunday... Tim Duncan did not play game,no problem, but the stat line stated the reason:he is OLD...

wrestling history anniversary...

i know this is a Packers' blog, but tonight marks a big sports-entertainment anniversary-twelve years ago,World Championship Wrestling(WCW)had its final Monday Night Nitro... the company was bought out,by World Wresting Federation(WWF),now WWE,and the program that night was ended with Shane McMahon,in a WCW ring,in Panama City,Florida, and his father,WWE Chairman Vince McMahon,in a WWF/E ring, telling fans that he had bought WCW,but Shane interrupted his father, and told him that(supposedly)he bought WCW,out from right under his nose, and to set up the WCW/ECW "invasion",of WWE storyline... i remember that night, like it was yesterday... what a night!!!!!!

commentary...

NFL owners' meetings are this week, and a lot of things will be discussed, and maybe even who plays the New York Giants, opening night,of 2012 NFL season... two teams are being discussed:the Green Bay Packers, and New Orleans Saints... there are two ideas in showcasing the Saints:show the team in rebounding from the "bounty" scandal, and how it cleaned up its act... there are some talk in not letting the Saints being showcased,in the season opener,so the idea that the Green Bay Packers, being Super Bowl XLV Champions, playing New York Giants, being Super Bowl XLVI Champions,in a rematch of the playoff game,in which the Packers lost,37-20,is a more enticing game, for opening night(i will just say that the Giants played well, and the Packers played their worst game of the year-grudging respect)...

NFL news...

if you think the Green Bay Packers are the only team in the NFC North Division, with a major starter out with a major surgery, think again, the Chicago Bears have a player, who is coming back from spinal fusion surgery-Johnny Knox... he will start 2012 NFL season,on physically unable to perform list...

Sunday, March 25, 2012

decision time?

2010 All-Pro Nick Collins is having his neck, which was injured,in week two, last season, evaluated this week... my honest opinion is that it is neck fusion surgery that he is coming back from, not a normal injury you come back from, when you play pro football... chances are that,if doctors will say that Collins can play football, without a major risk of more severe injury,he may play... will Ted Thompson(Packers' general manager)give him a chance to play,or will the decision be for Collins to retire... former Green Bay Packers' wide receiver Sterling Sharpe, and Hall of Fame member, and Dallas Cowboys' legend,Michael Irvin retired from NFL,because of similar injuries to neck, remember? no matter what is decided,i deeply, and dearly wish Nick,a happy life after pro football... may he find peace and happiness...

Packers' news...

2010 All-Pro Green Bay Packers' player Nick Collins, who suffered a severe injury,of his neck(stenosis of the neck-narrowing of spinal cord),in week two, will be evaluated next week,by his doctors, and then sit down with the Packers, and decide about his status, for this upcoming season...

NFL news...

San Francisco 49ers sign quarterback Alex Smith... 49ers had offered Smith a three year contract, worth $24 million, and $10 million, guaranteed, before March 13th,day that free agency started, for NFL... details on this contract may be different, but who knows?

NFL news,and commentary...

Denver Broncos signed Peyton Manning,to a 5 year,$96 million dollar contract... everyone is hyping a Super Bowl for the Broncos, because Manning is there, but honestly,Manning is not the quarterback that he was a few years ago(being 36 years old,and coming off an injury, and a year out of the NFL)... Denver does not have the quality of receivers that Indianapolis had a few years ago(Reggie Wayne,Marvin Harrison,Dallas Clark),or the running game that the Colts had... even though Denver led the NFL,in rushing yardage last year, that was because of Tim Tebow, and a severe lack of a passing attack, overall,in Denver last year... the AFC West should be a snap,of a win,as Denver will be the favorite, but beating the New England Patriots, the Pittsburgh Steelers,or the Baltimore Ravens will not be that easy, let alone, the New York Giants,San Francisco 49ers,or even the Green Bay Packers,in Super Bowl XLVII,for an example of teams, who may be better than Denver, this year... so Broncos' fans, your team will be in the playoffs, but until you improve your overall team, you will not be the favorite to win anything,yet...

Saturday, March 17, 2012

commentary...

another laughable comment came from New Orleans Saints' quarterback Drew Brees:he says that the "bounty" scandal came to him,as a "big shock",to him... if i believed that,i would be somewhat of a moron, and it is so hard to believe that people, outside the defense, did not know what was happening, with the entire team... my opinion is that this has gone on way too long, and if they do not hammer the Saints' organization, players, coaches, and Gregg Williams(St. Louis Rams' defensive coordinator),with substantial fines, suspensions, and reduction of draft picks,it will be an overall disgrace....

commentary...

in an almost laughable comment(in my opinion),Washington Redskins' general manager Bruce Allen told reporters that he does not believe that the team did not mortgage the team's future,by sending three first round draft picks,to the St. Louis Rams,to move up only four spots,in this year's NFL Draft... my point is:why do you not have a first round draft pick, until 2015? simple, the Redskins are betting on two factors:Griffith III will be a megastar,in the NFL,and that the Rams will really screw up with their drafting of players... the only thing that they forgot is that the Redskins are not the Green Bay Packers,New York Giants,New England Patriots,or even the Philadelphia Eagles... they have major holes to fill on offense, and with the expected departure of LaRon Landry, their defensive backfield will suffer, this year... even if Landry re-signs,the team will need help,period...

Packers' trivia...

where was the 1936 NFL Championship game, between the Packers, and Boston Redskins, played?(hint:if you say Boston,or Green Bay,you are wrong) answer:Polo Grounds,in New York City, because Redskins' owner George Preston Marshall, was upset because of lack of Boston support,so he wanted to move team to Washington D.C... the Packers won game,21-6...

what started neck troubles,for Peyton?

supposedly,Peyton Manning's neck troubles started in a game,in 2006,according to Tony Dungy, former head coach,of the Indianapolis Colts... on October 22,2006,Washington Redskins played Indianapolis, and late in second period,Manning got crunched, and got neck twisted(his arm went numb for a few minutes),and almost took himself out of the game... guess who was defensive coordinator,of the Redskins? Gregg Williams... *
*source:Peter King,SI.com,March 5,2012

clarification,of post...

the Cardinals moved from Chicago to St. Louis,in 1960... so Matson's trade, was from Chicago Cardinals,to Los Angeles Rams, for nine players... the reason that i say that the trade was a dud,was not because of Matson and his production, but because the Rams were not good in the early 1960's,as a team... side note:Matson was inducted into Pro Football Hall of Fame,in 1972,and into the College Football Hall of Fame,in 1976...

commentary...

my opinion on Redskins/Rams trade for number two pick,in 2012 NFL Draft is that if the Rams are smart with three first draft picks(over the next three years),and a second round pick this season, they have the better end of this trade... Washington Redskins better make the playoffs,at least once,in the next three seasons, with Robert Griffith III...
let us go back in history:on March 23,1959,the Los Angeles Rams traded nine players,to the Chicago Cardinals, for Ollie Matson... unfortunately, for both teams,Matson, who had his best year,in 1957,and six productive years,in Chicago, was a big dud,in Los Angeles... as for the nine players traded, for Matson, the Cardinals got some usuable players, but nothing to talk about...
on October 12,1989,Dallas Cowboys traded Herschel Walker, and four draft picks,to Minnesota Vikings, for fourteen players, and draft picks... Walker played some good years,in Minnesota, and only one of the draft picks, for the Vikings(Jake Reed)really panned out,for the Vikings... as for the Cowboys, they used the players, and draft picks,to stock a 1-15 team,in 1989,and won three Super Bowls, with them...
on April 17,1999,New Orleans traded their entire 1999 draft,to the Redskins, for Heisman Trophy winner, running back Ricky Williams, with the sixth overall pick, that day... Saints' head coach,Mike Ditka, left Saints' headquarters, that day, with a cigar,in his mouth saying that,"my day is done"... well,Ditka was done within three years,in New Orleans,as coach, and the Saints only recovered, after Hurricane Katrina, and Williams retired, and then came back after a basic world tour(ha,ha),and had his best year,in Miami, last season... as for the Redskins, the Redskins are the Redskins, under Daniel Snyder, and did very little in stocking their team, after the trade...

commentary...

the Saints' situation is very complex.... there a very real possibility that employees of the Saints(head coach Sean Payton, and general manager Mickey Loomis)will be suspended for some time, next season.... players may be suspended, for games(Jonathan Vilma, who reportedly put a 10.000 dollar "bounty",on the health of Brett Favre, before the 2009 NFC Championship game, against the Minnesota Vikings)... in the NFL report on what happened, there were 22,to 27 players involved,in the system, supervised by Gregg Williams, now the St. Louis Rams' defensive coordinator...
there could be forfeiture of draft picks in the 2012 NFL Draft, and i would not be surprised that the forfeiture of draft picks going into 2013(not many in 2013;in that case, because pro football teams are really built in the draft)... much of the punishment will be this season, along with massive fines... anything around $250,000,to $500,000 dollars,is massive...
i believe that Gregg Williams is simply persona non grata,in NFL,or suspended for a year, with a fine of more than $500,000 dollars, because he is the gamesmaster,of the scandal, and the likelihood that he did same,in Buffalo, and Washington, makes it worse!!!
there is one person in this situation whom i really feel sorry for,and that is:New Orleans Saints' owner Tom Benson, who honestly did not deserve this scandal... Mr. Benson is a classy owner...

correction...

the game that Brett Favre was carried off,by cart, was the 2009 NFC Championship, between Minnesota Vikings, and the New Orleans Saints... i will correct the previous post,as for the date,of game...

commentary...

i always respected Brett Favre,as a NFL quarterback, even when he was with the New York Jets,or the Minnesota Vikings... i did not like the way that he retired, and unretired,so many times, because it made me sick to stomach, over and over... the NFL "bounty" scandal has a face to it-Gregg Williams-but there is an another face,or picture,to it,too... a picture of Brett Favre being carried off the Superdome turf, during the 2009 NFC Championship,on that cart... at the time,i thought that was nothing was wrong with the way that the New Orleans Saints' defense was just pounding Favre, but now i despise the Saints, and always will, and i thought that the Saints played fair, but not now...
the scandal just makes me want to vomit, because it is just so obvious that many of the Saints' employees, coaches, and players knew of what was going on,and did nothing to stop it,and now that i know that it was done, possibly,in Buffalo(where Williams was head coach,of the Bills),and in Washington, where Williams was defensive coordinator,of the Redskins, from 2004-2007... if they do not throw the proverbial "book",at Williams,i will believe that the NFL does not care, about player safety...
there is a precedent for harsh discipline:in 1962,Paul Hornung,of the Green Bay Packers, and Alex Karras,of the Detroit Lions, were suspended, for a year, for gambling allegations... in my opinion, that is the only acceptable punishment for Williams,to me... as for the Saints:take away draft picks,in upcoming NFL Draft, fire the employees who know about the scandal, and give them a high six figure fine, maybe seven figures... that would stop it,in its tracks...

commentary...

when i have said on this blog that Packers were going to bury someone(like Brett Favre, during visits,as a Vikings' quarterback, for example)into Lambeau Field turf, during the game,i meant to hit the player a few times, try to rattle him,and make him jittery,to throw a pass, and in that way, take him off his game... putting bounties to injure people, was stupid, and totally insane... it may have been that way, earlier in the history of the game,as some pundits try to rationalize the practice... for every Peyton Manning, and Brett Favre, who have long NFL careers, you have a Darryl Stingley(New England Patriots' player, who in 1980,suffered paralysis, and broken neck,or back, when hit,by Oakland Raiders' Jack Tatum, during an preseason game),and Gale Sayers, who played only 68 games,as a Chicago Bears' Hall of Fame member... when your livelihood,is an average of four years,as a NFL player's is,you do not, do not,DO NOT do that practice, and anyone involved,in that practice,of putting bounties,on injuring players, should be fined heavily(in the high six-figure range,of a fine),or in the case of Greg Williams, who is rumored to have done this, with the Redskins, before doing this, with the Saints, give him a suspension from the NFL,for,at least,a year,or even think about a lifetime ban...

Friday, March 2, 2012

how stupid are they???

there is also a report, out of Washington D.C.(a Post story),the embattled former Saints' defense coordinator Greg Williams had a similar "bounty" system working in Washington, for the Redskins' defense, before being hired,by the Saints,in 2009... what makes this really stupid,is that an employee of the Saints was told by the owner to stop doing it,and they did not stop it,and Saints' coach Sean Payton knew of it,too... now i understand why then-Vikings' quarterback Brett Favre got really pounded,in the NFC Championship game, against the Saints(my opinion)...

lawyers,lawyers,lawyers...

Pro Football Hall of Fame member Deion Sanders is being sued,by his soon-to-be ex-wife,for-wait for it-$200 million, for slander, and libel, and other members of family are being sued, too,by her...

Breaking news...

there is a report,on NFL.com,that the New Orleans Saints, and their former defensive coordinator Greg Williams ran an illegal "pay for performance",or a "bounty" system, from 2009-2011... they supposedly paid $1,500 for a "knockout" hit,and $1,000 for a "cart-off" hit,and payouts, doubled,or tripled, during the three playoff appearances...
