correction...

Ray Guy had five punts of 60+ yards,in 1981... made the slight correction... OOPS!!!!

Hall of Fame class of 2014 biographies...

OOPS! i forget to do one thing last month that i said that i would do... the day before Super Bowl XLVIII,the Pro Football Hall of Fame announced their 2014 class:Ray Guy,Andre Reed,Claude Humphery,Michael Strahan,Aeneas Williams, and Derrick Brooks... 1)Ray Guy:he had 619 punts, before having a punt blocked;had five punts of 60+ yards,in 1981,had 210 punts inside the 20 yard line(not counting first three seasons, when the NFL did not count the stat)and only 128 touchbacks,in his career, and had a 42.4 yard career punting average... simply the best pure punter in history!!!!!! 2) Andre Reed:one of three Hall of Fame members(Jim Kelly, and Thurman Thomas are the others)that led the Buffalo Bills to four straight Super Bowls, and one of the best wide receivers,in NFL history, period!!!!!! 3)Claude Humphery:had 126.5 sacks,in 171 regular season games, and two safeties,in his NFL career, for the Atlanta Falcons, and Philadelphia Eagles;played in Super Bowl XV,for the Eagles, and threw penalty flag at referee Ben Dreith, for a roughing the passer call on Raiders' quarterback Jim Plunkett... classic moment!!!!!! 4)Michael Strahan:had 141.5 sacks, and 854 tackles, with four interceptions, and three touchdowns,in his NFL career... a real beast of a linebacker/defensive end!!!!!! 5)Aeneas Williams:had 795 tackles, and 55 interceptions, with nine touchdowns, for the Cardinals, and the Rams... he actually hit 49ers' quarterback Steve Young, during week three,of the 1999 NFL season(Cardinals/49ers game)and gave him a concussion, that basically ended his Hall of Fame career... a real hitter!!!!!! 6)Derrick Brooks:a book end defensive lineman with Hall of Fame member Warren Sapp, with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers... started 221 of the 224 games that he has played;had 1,715 tackles, with 25 interceptions, including one memorable interception return for touchdown,in Super Bowl XXXVII,against the Oakland Raiders... a real game changer!!!!!!

NFL news...

the NFL could expand the playoffs to an extra team joining in,for the 2015 NFL season, including a Monday Night playoff game, knowing that the extra revenue from two extra playoff games is basically too tempting to resist the revenue... note:they meet March 23-26,and could expand it(the playoffs),for the 2014 NFL season, but it is unlikely for this upcoming season, reports say...

NFL news...

New Orleans Saints and tight end Jimmy Graham are far apart in contract talks... the Saints see him as a tight end,and he sees himself as a wide receiver, which means that the franchise tag between the two positions are about $5 million/a year apart... the NFL averages salary of the position to come their franchise tag number...

commentary...

the hype about Michael Sam may be somewhat muted, because of his so so combine numbers... he ran 4.91,in the 40 yard dash;had seventeen reps of 225 pounds;a vertical jump of 25.5 inches, and a broad jump,of 114 inches... he said that he was "over-thinking"and disappointed in his vertical jump... he was supposed a third round to fifth round pick, but with those rather bad numbers,i expect the lower end of that range, and that is being kind...

commentary...

football dynasties have been talked about recently, with the Seattle Seahawks' 43-8 destruction of the Denver Broncos,in Super Bowl XLVIII,but in the Super Bowl era,the Pittsburgh Steelers have six Lombardi Trophies(four of them in six years,in the 1970's) winning back to back Super Bowls twice... the San Francisco 49ers have won five Lombardi Trophies,in fourteen years(1981 to 1995)... the Dallas Cowboys, and New England Patriots have won three Super Bowls in four years... however, there are two teams that merit mention:the 1950's Cleveland Browns with three NFL titles, with an appearance in every NFL Championship game, from 1950-1957,except 1956,and the 1960's Packers who won five NFL championships,in a decade, which is a record, and the first two Super Bowls... the talk of a dynasty in Seattle is way too immature, when you compare the Seahawks to those other teams,so you better shut up the talk, and back up your swagger...

NFL news...

today is the first day of the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine... not much else on today... i still have to note that... BORING!!!!!!!(laughing)... 335 prospects will go through the drills, over the next three or four days... what fun!!!!!!!

Packers' news...

Packers' head coach Mike McCarthy says that he is optimistic about tight end Jermichael Finley's recovery from spinal fusion surgery Finley's doctors have said that Finley will have a "99.9 percent" recovery to return to the NFL... McCarthy says that bring Finley back to the Packers is still an option, but knowing how conservative the Packers' doctors are, that is still a long shot(my opinion),but i hope Finley does recover fully, and has a very good life...

NFL news...

New York Giants signed head coach Tom Coughlin,to an one year contract extension through the 2015 NFL season...

commentary...

the NFL is in Indianapolis for their scouting combine, starting Saturday... Miami Dolphins fired offensive line coach Jim Turner, and head trainer Kevin O'Neill, for their actions in the NFL harassment report(the Wells report)on the Miami Dolphins... my opinion:if you saw Dolphins' head coach Joe Philbin's press conference at the combine,he acted like everything was hunky dory last season, talking about team discipline, when he became head coach, last season... i was scratching my head, because he was saying that he was going to do something about team discipline(like he was in charge),and,i hate to admit, that he was putting a smiley face on a stinking pigpen of a situation, last season... what a real joke!!!!!! i do wonder if Philbin has what it takes to be a head coach, because he seemed to be clueless,period...

NFL news,and trivia...

the NFL Competition Committee are considering moving the extra point attempt back another ten yards... trivia:how many extra point attempts were missed in the 2013-2014 NFL season??? answer:amazingly, the number of extra point attempts missed was five extra point attempts... extra trivia:in Packers' kicker Mason Crosby's career, how many extra point attempts has he missed??? answer:he has missed only two extra point attempts(348 of 350),including a block,in 2011...

toughest NFL players...

1)David "Deacon" Jones, played without an injury, wanted to rip off your head throughout his career with the Los Angeles Rams, and San Diego Chargers,"owns" sack record(before they kept that stat, starting,in 1982)... 2)Brett Favre-321 games started in a row, including 297 regular season games,at quarterback... enough said... 3)Jim Marshall, played in the cold with over 200 starts,in Minnesota...

commentary...

one pundit on NFL Network says that there are only three elite quarterbacks in the NFL:Packers' quarterback Aaron Rodgers,New England Patriots' quarterback Tom Brady, and Denver Broncos' quarterback Peyton Manning... i do not disagree with that, but i would add two more to that list:Seattle Seahawks' quarterback Russell Wilson, and New Orleans Saints' quarterback Drew Brees... Brees has won a Super Bowl, and has thrown for 5,476 yards-second in NFL history, for a season, but this season, the entire team for the Saints was not up to snuff-not even close... Rodgers had a 6-3 regular season, but had a broken clavicle, midway into the 2014 NFL season... Brady has been to the AFC Championship game,i believe, the last three years... Manning threw for 5,477 yards, and had 55 touchdown passes,in the 2014 NFL season, and lost to the Seattle Seahawks,in Super Bowl XLVIII,and Wilson beat Manning in Super Bowl XLVIII,as the Seahawks demolished Denver,43-8...

commentary...

i am sick, tired, and very pissed about the lack of class, and the mis-behaviour of some current, and former NFL players... when i became a shareholder/owner of the Packers,i was very proud of that fact, and still am,but the goofy, crazy, and somewhat criminal behaviour of the immature NFL players, who are very arrogant, and believe that they are simply above the law, which is definitely wrong, period!!!!!!! the NFL report of the harassed Dolphins' players, and coaches in their locker room is somewhat stupid, immature, but is punishable by the Dolphins, and NFL... however, there is a story that is in the news that is much more disturbing, and will be dealt with by legal means... former NFL player Darren Sharper is in deep deep legal trouble, and charged with actual crimes against women,in California, and is suspected of the same scumbag routine,in three other states... the NFL should be a class professional sports league, and players, and coaches should be aware of that, because the NFL is made of classy people, and organizations, and that is the reason that i am a shareholder/owner of the Packers... to the vast majority of the players, who show true class,on and off the field,i applaud you,and to the miscreants who blacken the eye of the NFL,simply go away!!!

is the NFL embarrassed,yet???

the NFL report on the Miami Dolphins' players, who harassed Jonathan Martin, off the Dolphins' roster has been released... three players(Richie Incognito,Mike Pouncey, and John Jerry)-all starters on the 2013 team have engaged in a "pattern of harassment" towards Martin, another unnamed young offensive lineman, and an assistant coach, using language that is so offensive that the NFL should be embarrassed,by the three players' actions... Incognito has strongly denied that he has done anything wrong, and has said that Martin has lied, basically libeled, about him,and that the report will exonerate him... what a moronic, and idiotic fool!!! my opinion:for the last few years, the NFL has suffered embarrassment done both by coaches, and players... in the case of the New Orleans Saints' "bounty" scandal, players were punished with a slap on the wrist, while the coaches, and front office of the Saints got hammered with suspensions... in this case, being a shareholder/owner of the Packers,i am pissed, and feel that crap should never be tolerated by anyone,PERIOD!!!!!!! what the NFL does is up to them, but the punishment should be rather ugly!!!

Packers' news...

Packers have the 13th toughest schedule,as the NFL says, with opponents having a .504 schedule this season... that is tops for the NFC North Division... they do play the Seattle Seahawks,in the 2014 NFL season... as a side note:the San Francisco 49ers have a tie with the fourth toughest schedule,at .563... they play the Seattle Seahawks, twice,in the 2014 NFL season

NFL news...

New Orleans Saints released Jabari Greer,Will Smith,Roman Harper, and Jonathan Vilma...

a night at Lambeau Field...

i loved to look at Lambeau Field,tonight... it has been a while, and the lights on the concourse looks beautiful...

comments...

reports in the NFL say that the Packers, who do not usually spend money in free agency, could sign as many as five free agents this off-season,which would be the most players signed by the Packers, since the 2006 NFL season...

commentary...

the pundits are really hyping the first openly gay NFL draft prospect, and possible NFL player,Michael Sam,out of the University of Missouri... to tell you the truth,i am a true fan of football, and in my opinion,it may be a big thing, which may be good, but,to me,it is no big deal, because i root for the Packers, pro football,in general, and it should not be a big deal, because, since 1921,there have been gay players,in NFL locker rooms,so i really would not care a whit about that part of a person's life, because life is life, and people are people... i hope that he has a long NFL career,or at least,he gets a legitimate shot to play,in the NFL...

Packers' news,and comments...

Packers will tweak their defensive scheme, but will not change their 3-4 defense to a 4-3 defense, which is not surprising, because on the defensive side of the football actually misses players like Nick Collins, who was an All-Pro,in 2010,but was injured in the second game in 2011,and had spinal fusion surgery, and retired, even though,he wants to "take a chance",to play,in 2014... not many teams have shown interest in him,to "take a chance"...

note about my mother...

i have to say that my dear departed mother is right around me every day,so i miss her every day... every year that she has been missed, gets a little better emotionally... i note that she has been gone six years, yesterday, but she has never been gone to my heart,NEVER,EVER... i do not know what to say about her, because she was so very unique,period... like i said earlier about my father(me being more like him than i can admit),the same thing applies to my mother, because both of them were so unique people... i am very sad,but again, very happy to be part of our unique family...

to my loving father...

this is very difficult to talk about, because how do i explain my father to you,folks... he is turning eighty this July... i have a very funny picture of him blowing out 79 separate candles on his cake... it honestly looked like a forest fire on his cake, with his chin over the cake... have to see it to believe it... people think he is a nice guy, but, honestly,i know the truth(laughing)... question:why was i not invited to the party??? seems that i miss all the fun??? enough of the laughs, more later(maybe)... let me take you back to the late 50's:he married my mother,in January,1957;had my older sister in September,1957... i was born in August,1959;was in serious auto accident,in September,1959(cerebral palsy),and my younger brother was born in August,1960(our birthdays are two days apart)... to be 26 years of age,and have a wife and three children(one handicapped-me) may not have been that unusual at that time, but it was very tough on him... must have been tough;that is for sure, but he treated every one of us kids the same, including me... i was brought up to be independent, and to honestly think for myself... he punished us the same, and taught me that there was absolutely no difference between any of us kids... i never knew how tough it was on him growing up... i remember the morning paper route,in Bakersfield;he would take one of us on a route one at a time,we would go to Winchell's after the route, and honestly,i really looked forward to my turn doing it... we moved to Sacramento in March,1969,and shortly after that,my mother moved to Denver, but i still remember the football games, between me and my dad,in the backyard, shortly after moving to Sacramento... my parents went through a tough time, and i remember that time as a very tough time for me,because we moved often, and i was confused about it... my father tried to be a real father, and he was,no doubt, but i feel even now, that he was distracted(missing my mother and sister),and dealing with two sons who honestly were growing up... i remember one thing from that time:we had a puppy, and hamster-my dad asked me what to keep-puppy or hamster... i picked the hamster, and it died two day later... that sucked... should have kept the puppy... we moved to Orangevale, and my parents tried to make it work, but after many other moves,it went south,in a big way... until the day that my mother died,in 2008,my dad cared for my mother very much, but at that time, the passion that they had,in my own opinion, turned into mass frustration, and anger... that is the best way that i can put it... he married Patti,in February,1975... which,at that time,i thought it was going to be tough, and for a time,it was... over the years,i have honestly have come to really love, and respect her,period... my father showed a side of himself that i rarely ever see;a very caring, loving, and patient person, who would give you the shirt off his back, but he could be tough as nails through the tough times... we honestly have not seen eye to eye over the years, and have had our tough times, but the tough times had to happen, because i had to grow up,and to tell you the truth, most of those times were my fault... however, there is no one whom i respect and love, more than my father,period... i hate to say this, but i am more like my father than i really want to admit... i joke around with him all the time, because, one time,i told my dear departed mother that i felt like he needed to laugh, and i guess that is still true... through the years,i have grown up to be my father's son... i am a Shaw,no doubt... now back to bed...

Packers' news...

Packers' tight end Jermichael Finley may be an unrestricted free agent coming up soon,in a few weeks, but before he does, the Packers have exclusive rights, for the next five weeks,to talking to him, about re-signing him to a contract... Finley wants to stay a Packer for the rest of his career, but the Packers have many players to sign, and re-sign... Sam Shields, and B.J. Raji are two of the players needing to be re-signed,along with Randall Cobb, and Jordy Nelson, both who are going into their contract years... however,Finley does not want to take a discount to stay with the Packers... my opinion:do not expect Finley to re-sign,until the last moment,or even become a free agent...

Rodriguez out until 2015,or even longer...

Alex Rodriguez has withdrawn his two lawsuits against Major League Baseball... good bye,Alex,until,maybe,2015... my opinion:i have never liked Rodriguez, because he has been greedy, rather arrogant, and he really have treated the fans with contempt over the years... hey,Alex, this just proves my point, you have class lower than an amoeba, and just GO AWAY!!!!!!!!

Paul,John,George,and Ringo,50 years ago...

today is the 50th anniversary of the Beatles' first trip into the USA... to the recent generations of music lovers, they have no idea how big they were to rock and roll... some people do not like the Beatles, because some of the lyrics were stupid, and somewhat childish, but if you really listen, and remember,to their White Album, and to Sgt. Pepper's,you really get blown away by their talent,as true musicians... Paul McCartney ,the late John Lennon, and George Harrison were simply great musicians, period, and Ringo Starr were a good drummer,to boot, and people do not remember the Beatles as that... they look at photos of their mop tops, and really do not remember that they helped change music in ways that no one will ever forget,period... a hat tip to one of the greatest musical groups,period...

odd,strange,but very true baseball trivia...

i have three trivia questions of the 1968 MLB season:how many players hit .300 in the American League, that season??? answer:one, only one:Carl Yastrzemski .301,for the Boston Red Sox... what baseball team hit a collective .214-the lowest for the iconic franchise for a season... answer:New York Yankees... finally:what pitcher had an ERA of 1.12,but actually lost nine games that season,in a 22-9 season??? answer:Bob Gibson of the St. Louis Cardinals...

two class acts...

the Super Bowl may have been a real beatdown... however,Denver Broncos' quarterback Peyton Manning, and Seattle Seahawks' cornerback Richard Sherman both showed total class in their interviews, and their humanity, after the game... the media scrum around Manning was classic Peyton:he sat there and answered every question, and yet got "insulted",when a reporter asked him if he was embarrassed by the game... he mentioned that he would not said that, because he mentioned the real effort that he and his teammates put into the game, and he totally refused to throw anyone under the proverbial bus,and he gave the Seahawks credit... Sherman was gracious in his comments about the game, and honestly felt bad about the Broncos losing the game... he also mentioned that Manning asked him about his high ankle sprain, and gave him kudos for being a class competitor, and person,period... those two people are part of the real class of the NFL...

beatdown of the year,,,,

Seahawks 43,Broncos 8.... Seahawks stomp and crush Broncos into mush, without a doubt!!!!!!!! was 36-0,before Denver even scored... this is THE beatdown of the year... Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl XLVIII Champions!!!!!!!!!!

a hat tip...

i may not like "Da Bears",but have to give absolute kudos to Charles "Peanut" Tillman... through his Cornerstone Foundation,he has helped people from Chicago to Cambodia(building schools)... he was 2013 Walter Payton Man of the Year Award winner... this has nothing to do with his on the field play for "Da Bears",and for that,i give him a deep hat tip...

Packers' news,and comments...

Packers' rookie running back Eddie Lacy won NFL offensive rookie of the year... never say never moment(play of the year):down 28-27,4th and 8:Aaron Rodgers to Randall Cobb,48 yard touchdown, with 36 seconds left,in game,in week seventeen,to beat the Chicago Bears,in Chicago,to boot, and win the NFC North Division crown,33-28... my opinion:loved to crush the Bears' heart, and rip it out and then show it to them... that play made my entire Packers' year... i "despise" "Da Bears" that much...
