NIOSH mortality studies....

the National Institute of Occupational Safety,and Health(NIOSH) did a study with the NFLPA,in 1994,studied mortality rates between retired NFL players,and the general public... they studied 3,439 retired players,from 1959,to 1988... the overall rate was 46% lower,between retired NFL players,and the general public... they expected 189 deaths,and only 103 died... different rates for heart disease(defensive and offensive linemen)is greater(52%) than the general public,only because of body type,and size... defensive linemen has a 46% greater chance of heart disease than men in the general public,and African American players have a 69% greater chance of heart disease,than Caucasian players... accidents,and violence causing death;their rates are for violence,are 79% lower,and accidents are 39% lower than the general public...*
